  • Thanks for all your comments.
Rang Matt and had a chat with him yesterday and it seems the torch will be fired up this week as they're modeling the rear end up again in cad. We agreed he'd let me know if this is likely to slip.
    Feeling more positive again.
I need to learn to be more patient and I know that you always get the best out of people if you leave them too it.

  • Bushnell EBB and custom shell ready for brazing.
The bushnell EBB is a very clever piece of kit apparently. Has 2 wedges that move away from each other from the centre outwards causing the whole bb shell to expand.

  • it's a tandem, it's a huge process to do, 8 months is fine (a lots of framebuilder are usuall that long, some up to two years).

  • That doesn't look complicated or time-consuming in the slightest.

    ;-)

  • Yeah, I know. Going forward, I vow to fill this thread with nothing but peace and love to all in the cycling industry and pics of nice engineering.

  • .

  • Rear end in Fusion.
    Front end getting brazed today.

  • As Ice Cube said, today was a good day.
I've had good news on multiple fronts today and this tops it off. Front end of tandem in the jig.

  • Looks a bit short.

  • It's about to get a whole lot longer apparently! That's an awfully large boom tube leaning up against the wall. Good thing I'll hopefully be moving house soon as I don't really have anywhere to put it. Second floor flat life with no lift.

  • I have the perfect flat for a tandem. No body pedal with.

  • The stoker is stoked with progress.
It's looking really nice and feels light too!

  • That's a pretty good photos.

Especially when you can see my bicycle in the background.

@coldharbour seemed to have a habit of shoehorning my bike into the background of nearly every photos he took.

  • long time lurker, just checked in to browse through the last few pages. Nice progress!

    havent seen this before:

what kind of geo that has and how tall is the rider? Small frames are really interesting geo-vice.

  • Hello!
She's 5ft 2. It rides like a dream apparently with minimal toe overlap. Err, not too sure Re geo. Told Matt she had a Defy previously and he came up with it.

  • So this is coming in from AVT. Because the HED rims that we are using only go up to 32H and Hope no longer do a 32H tandem hub.
    145mm
Much excitement. Apparently, the frame is finished, the fork is winging its way back from Bristol where it was modified and should be ready to go to Cole Coatings to be painted soon. Squeeeeeee!

  • Hope were well moody on the emails when I asked them about tandem hubs :(

  • 32 spokes is a bit low for tandem wheels no?

  • Goes against conventional wisdom, yes but both Matt and Joel reckon they'll be fine.
I'm currently at 67kg and my daughter weighs 27kg so should be ok for a while at least!
Hopefully, you'll see us piloting it up Layhams soon, either that or in a bloody heap!

  • I'm currently at 67kg and my daughter weighs 27kg

That's still 20kg less than me and I don't have any bother with 32h wheels :-)

This tandem couldn't get much more bling if Cole Coatings gold-plated it.

  • Here is my rear end. Big like Goatse.

  • Not sure if I missed something but why was the eddy brake given up on?

  • Not sure tbh but will check with Matt when I see him next. Probably a combination of time drain / physics etc.

  • 'time drain / physics etc'

isn't that why everything gives up eventually?

Also, very very nice - excited to see it built

  • For even more reassurance... friend's are racing the highland trail on their 29er tandem with 32 spokes at each end, they're probably about 120kg combined + 18kg of tandem and ~6-7kg of clothes/kit/water/food on top of that...
