Was going to say I rode a trials bike once with the freewheel on the cranks not the hub. That's all I remember though.

Ohhhhhh, those look like lovely but shit's already far too complicated!
Looks to be more fork dramas. Calfee sent Matt some random email about not being able to perform the modifications that we wanted. Odd because it's completely custom. Hopefully some sort of miscommunication. Not helped by the fact that they're on Californian time.
My fault for trying to do something different I guess :)
Some of these small scale bike component companies are a bit funny. Seems you have to tickle their balls combined with a reacharound, throw lots of money at them, then maybe, they might give up the goods. Or maybe, I'm just an impatient cunt. Probably this. -

So, there appears to have been quite a bit of miscommunication about the fork from Calfee to Matt but have finally got to the bottom of it. They don't and haven't ever actually made their own forks just modified other companies offerings. So we've ordered a Whisky no 9 bolt through (from Ison) with the mudguard mounts. So that's that. Progress!

Modified carbon forks eh? This gon b gud

Looks solid. "No rider weight limit" sounds tandemable as well. Nice.

• #359
Oh, and Cole Coatings will be painting it!

• #360
What modifications are you making if it's already got eyelets? Just a couple of holes for dynamo wiring?
-
• #361
Yep, just the dynamo wiring and hydraulic brake hose holes.

that moment when your £3k custom tandem is finally built after much delay and your stoker has out grown it - priceless

She's eating me out of house and home at the moment. The irony is not lost on me, no sir, it isn't. Should have made it a triple in case the family has any more future additions.

Should have made it a triple

Just reading through their site now. They can have a custom tandem delivered within 6 weeks :)
Just realised that 8 months has now passed since deposit payment. Everything is now in place so can't see this taking too much longer TBH.
I can't imagine any other bikes have been in the build queue longer so it would be pretty poor form to see other bikes being finished before this. -

Sunday, I get a message saying attacking with a torch imminently, today a message saying resorting to pen and paper on rear end to make double sure all the clearances are correct. Not any clearer as to when this will be finished despite asking multiple times. What stage do I cut my losses and walk away from this project? I'm feeling down about this and not enjoying the process anymore and have lost interest in it. Sick of asking with no material progress. It's the uncertainty after 8 months.

I guess you have to think, you've waited 8 months, so a bit longer won't hurt much. Also, it's good, in the long run, that these things are being checked now, rather than it being brazed up and then afterwards find there is a problem. (OTOH with 8 months you'd think that could have been checked and double checked a long time ago)
But I totally understand your frustration. I suspect the fact that Bespoked is coming up soon is causing more time pressure which won't be helping things. But hopefully come June when you're riding this happily you'll have forgotten all about the wait

I agree with your sentiments on this @branwen
I can understand some of @7ven 's frustration, but my Rourke has taken nearly a year, due to me, parts issues, 3rd parties, factory moves etc etc and I had some forks made at Talbot that took about 4 months to get sorted. But from the out set with both of those projects I didn't really expect anything else to be honest.
At the end though, I will have two amazing bikes that are totally unique, designed to my requirements (which where a bit of a challenge for starters) and my enjoyment of them will well out last any of the sullen mornings where I wished I had them there and then.
I also really value the time I have spent through both processes with people I would have never otherwise met. It's led into some great relationships both at Talbot and Rourke, and that means prob as much to me as the bikes.
Hopefully you'll love and cherish this bike and the experience of being a part of its creation, even if your feeling fed up with it now.

Stick in there big man, the final result is worth the wait :) T

Keep the faith Sven! It will be worth it, I can understand your frustrations but I'm sure Your patience will be rewarded.

Everytime the thread pops up,
my internals are doing the sick fadez,
from envy to awe and back.
It's coming,
launch needs fair weather I guess. -

It's quite a complicated project and Matt's first tandem right? How long did the other Talbot you had build take start to finish?
Also I thought the final build/design was only actually finalised a couple of months ago.

Stick with it. It will be rad when it's done. Pop in to see Matt if you aren't getting what you need through other channels.

Its going to be groundbreaking. Keep going!!

As suggested already, talk to Matt about your concerns. Don't give up, it's gonna be awesome, just taking a bit longer than originally thought. Just think of the pleasure you'll get riding this unique tandem with yer daughter, the adventures you'll have and the moments you'll share. Fookin priceless and well worth the wait, imho. Hang in there man.
