Yep, planning on building it myself. At the moment I'm building a TIG-welded balance bike for Niece #2, then I'll be doing a lugged frame for my Fixed Road (with Mudguards) bike, then fillet brazing a frame for @Cycliste. At my current rate of progress, Niece #2 will be about 30 by the time her balance bike is finished...

So Emma's bike is going back to Matt to sort out the paint issues next week when he's back from t'north.
Disappointed that it has to go back but he's coming to collect it and has been great about it and it's the putting right that counts in my books. -

Paint is the devils work.
It will get sorted.

I know tandem brakes been discussed ad infinitum here, but just adding one last thing I never saw before: double drum + rim brakes. Four brakes and two levers must hurt. It's on a Jack Taylor just added to ebay, fancy stoker top tube too:

• #231
That is a bit odd. Shame to do that to the stoker seat tube too. Looks like zero seatpost length which would give a rather harsh ride for the stoker

Imagine getting a double puncture on that badboy! It'd take forever to change a wheel!
Nice though. You going to bid on it? -

In other tandem related news, Matt has been talking to someone who works at Maddison (might even be 'on here') about hydro brakes on Tandems. Apparently the reason they aren't that common isn't because that they would boil the brake fluid but because of the stresses on the forks. That's if I remember right unless I got the wrong end of the stick @coldharbour?
Anyway, this will be getting hydro discs and the first parts of the groupset have been selected for order. R785 levers with a 9070 front derailleur. WRT to the rear derailleur, I'd have liked a 9070 long cage but they don't exist. As @dammit has both a 6870 long cage and a 9070 derailleur, he's bravely volunteered to see if we can transplant the long cage from the 6870 onto thethe 9070. Watch this space for tales of warranty voiding. -

Ah no, I'm well served in the tandem dept already

Talk front and rear dynamo powered lights to me.
This will be getting a Shutter Precision front HUB as they do disc and tandem rated. What are the nice options out there? Supernova? Edelux II? -
• #236
The high range B&M offerings are also quite nice, and have a handy USB charger built in.
Apart from that, Supernova and Edelux II.

Thanks, will check them out!

Looks good!
Can imagine bike fitting and designing for a child is a challenge.
How has they taken growing into account? Both Scherrit and Matt. -
• #241
Pilot looks perfectly sized for me!
Looks like a very practical solution with a large scope of room for growth!

The stoker stem attachment is being custom made by Matt and should be able to be raised all the way to the top of the pilot seatpost. There was talk of a Brompton proportion seatpost to incorporate growth from young blood.
-
• #243
Could you use one of those adjustable stoker stems?
-
• #244
The problem with that one is that it decreases reach as you increase stack.
-
• #245
Something like this could be on the cards!
-
• #246
25c???
200mm stoker seal the deal.

You and I are almost exactly the same proportion if this measurement is anything to go by.

Actual lol
@Cycliste's time trial bike is 650C, and her fixed/SS road bike will be too. The gravel grinder/CX Lite is going to be 700C, because that's what the forks are. She'll manage...
