Right, back to tandem talk as going for bike fit next week with Scherrit. The forks specifically.
I have the opportunity to get some lush custom carbon ones made out of the states or get Matt to make me a set. Carbon or steel? -

You planning on touring on it ever? I personally don't like the idea of carbon on a tandem unless it's for racing on. If its for some family fun I don't how carbon offers anything
-
• #204
I wouldn't be the guinea pig for an untested carbon modifying place, that's apparently my job :D
-
• #205
It's primary purpose would be multi day family touring. Not self sufficient carry the kitchen sink and tent touring, moreso, riding from B&B to B&B with rear panniers or frame bag.

Ha! Something bigger and beefier this way comes for you I hear! They'd (the Carbon ones) would be coming from Calfee who have a decent reputation in the tandem market.

Don't know about anyone else, but I really like the fact that Matt built my whole frameset, rather than just bolting someone else's ( however nice ) fork onto his frame.
-
• #208
You didn't get him to make your rims, headset, bars and seatpost? quitter

A fork is not a component; a fork does not have a barcode added. I’m pissing in the wind, because I’m definitely from a different generation, but very little can offend me more than seeing a well-made or handmade bike with a guy shoving a carbon fork in. To me that says “I don’t know how to make a fork.” If you don’t know how to make a fork, you shouldn’t be taking money for the frame.

To be fair, those stainless steel tyres were a real disappointment.

Bamboo right? They are kind of like the forks though.

^^ stoker must be a giant!
-

Nah I think it's full carbon. Anyway, seeing this I'd rather go for a nice Talbot fork with all the mounts you might need.

They only put the beginning of the post in for the pic because the customer didn't pick it up yet.

Lols. He then goes on to list his favourite custom builders most of whom supply their builds with aftermarket forks. Huge amounts of respect for the man though.
Maybe I'll go for two forks. -

durp. that makes much more sense!

Steel crown, with bonded crabon legs.....

Sounds like a recipe for contraction /expansion paint cracks!

Right, picked Emma's small bike up today and had a tour of Talbot Towers.
Lovingly handcrafted but may need to go back for some touch ups. Waiting to hear back from Matt.
This will be getting some White Industries CLD hubs with HED Belgium 25 rims. Those wheels just in there to see what it looked like. Really stoked with the design! -

Why the repainting? Looks good on the photos. Oh, and any idea what the head angle is? I'm designing a gravel grinder/CX-lite frame for @Cycliste, who is also of bijou proportions, and I'm fearing excessive toe-overlap on my current design - making the headtube angle a bit slacker would give a few more mms for those errant tootsies.

26" Wheels is the answer for smaller frames...
-
• #224
There's a few small things that need to be addressed. Sure Matt will have an easy solution. Pretty sure the headtube is 71deg. You building it yourself?

This has far less toe overap than both my 56cm Looks! :)
Talbot Fadeworks more like!
