Thanks for the offer, I'm gonna go and Google the SH fork, not seen it but I think I'm gonna wait and buy the 2016 equilibrium.
-
• #78
Right choice, I think.

Why not buy the kaffenback and just sell it when the Genesis is available? Keep it in good condition and it should go for around £100. Effectively meaning youve 'borrowed' the frameset for £50 for a few months. Cant be that hard to justify?

You obviously don't know my other half. Logic to you and I isn't the same as her logic (or most other people's probably, our minds are warped by bikes and £££)

Could anyone tell me the real differences between the 2016 equilibrium disc and the current croix de fer?
Other than the straight blade fork and internal cable. Any ideas?
Found the frameset at a reasonable price which would allow me to spend a little more on the wheels.

More tyre clearance on the cdf, will take 38/40c without guards. Slightly different geo, but not a great deal.
-
• #83
Slightly different geo, croix takes bigger tyres.
I've done about 1300 miles on my croix and all I can say is, it's excellent. I've been doing road rides on it and had taken it off road before switching to road tyres, it's just fantastic all round.

Sweet. Cheers guys. Didn't think there was anything massively different. Gonna look into getting the croix then I think! Commuting and fast road rides is the name of the game so will probably run 28mm max but with guards so hopefully won't look too gappy.

Negotiations on the croix de fer are underway. It's the electric blue with the carbon fork. Second hand but in great condition, just stripped down from an off the peg build.
The next question is...
With the money I am hopefully saving, do I upgrade the wheels from Aksium discs to kinesis crosslights? £100 more but 400g less. 25p a gram seems reasonable?
And then there's tyre choice... -

This is still a winter/bad weather bike right? Spend the saved money on espresso or Tripels...
-
• #87
Yep. Save the dosh. Go for long rides with frequent stops for tea n cake!
-
• #88
It's a commuter and bad weather road bike yeah. Save the dosh? I'm just a little concerned about the weight but I suppose 500g is just gonna be an extra training aid...
Ok, aksiums. Thank you all for being the voice of reason.
Now, most importantly. Tyres. -
• #89
Just for commuting? Paselas 32mm, rando pro 35mm, or if you're feeling like you need to empty yer wallet compass or challenge strada biancas.
-
• #90
Probably gonna go for something around 25/28c. I wanna be able to go on fast road rides without changing tyres so won't want a 32c tyre slowing me down. Will check out the Pasela. Current bike has 28c vittoria rando on and I'm happy with them (not gonna mention the weight...)

Might just grab some conti gp4000s ii in 28c and be done with it. After something fast, light and tough. These'll do.
-
• #92
Sounds sensible, they're on-trend (along with Open Pave) in the 'Which Tyre?' thread.
-
• #93
Cool, I run open corsa on my roadie and do love them but the side wall isn't very well protected and I think the pave has the same issue so wouldn't wanna run them year round.
-
• #94
Maybe consider gravel king, gets good reviews for all round riding, quite light.
-
• #95
Ah I'll check them out but have just purchased the contis whilst bored at work... Haha
-
• #96
So the frame seller just told me he's had an offer of £10 more... Told him I'm not bothering with a bidding war. So the frame hunt/decision is back on... Great...
-
• #97
Now its off, what was your offer?
-
• #98
£300 posted. The seller said someone's offered £280 collected which is essentially £310 with postage. 'Do you have any advances on £310?' To which I replied with the above. Nothing stopping the other guy from going to £330 after the seller says he's had another offer. Washing my hands.

No honour anymore. A gentlemans agreement, worth nowt these days. Ah well, hope you find summat soonish. Maybe this is the bicycle gods telling you to get the Equilibrium?

All these thoughts went through my head as well. It's just a bit rubbish cos I want to ride it now! Haha.
I understand he just wants as much as possible for it and it probably is worth £320 posted but yeah the way it went I just thought sod it. Ah well =[
Haha, no, I really appreciate all the advice from everyone. I hate patience but yeah...
