Commuter/roadie build - Equilibrium disc 2016

Jesus! We're as bad as each other, I'm flitting from staying with what I got to a Giant, now a Kona, also looked at a Crux!
Don't know how old you are, I'm putting my fookin about down to a mid life crisis.

Haha! I've been lurking silently on your thread as well and spotted your dilemma as well. I just want a reallllly good bike that does everything I want for less money. If I go with the genesis then I've still built one up with a better spec for less ££ than their off the peg options.

They were the ones selling the crux on eBay and the sale prices seem half decent.

The bike room is a reasonable size but the other half takes the view of 'you only need one bike'... I'm starting to feel like I will never buy a frame and this thread is just here so that with each post I make you all feel less daft about your own bike problems...

Nah, no such thing as 'ultimate do it all bike', get relatively cheaper bikes for each purpose if you dont want to ball hard.

Personally I look at @dancing james stable for inspiration.

Oh I totally agree (was just pointing out that due to the laws I live by I have to keep the bike number low). For what I need/want the genesis will be the ultimate do it all. Bad weather commuter/fast bad weather roadie (plus good weather if I want...) so I have to just wait. But I'm pretty impatient... Incase you didn't spot... Ha

I have an all purpose bike, mudguards, rack, drop bars, hydraulic discs etc and it is nice.

but then there are the more dedicated bieks

ti 29er
fatbike
ti road bike
carbon road bike

all for more specific functions. every time i ride them i enjoy them much more than the workhorse bike, because they fulfill their roles that bit better

having said that i'd hate to carry 15 kilos of baggage on any of my other bikes

find an understanding partner - we had a garage built for our bikes.

I had that dilemma, was considering along the lines of PX London road and Pinnacle Arkose. In the end I did what I really wanted, carbon gravel bike with hydro brakes and the only regret I have is not stretching to Ultegra.

Haha, yeah. It's just a matter of me being super impatient and this build thread being 3 months old and not having a frame... I'm doing my best to wait though. Only a month or so to go.

Apparently some shop in Inverness is knocking out the genesis equilibrium disc for about 30% less. I know you want to build but this may work out cheaper.

I have been keeping an eye on the 2015 disc frame just incase it gets to a nicer price (for £100 savings I'd rather have the 2016 - but £200 and I'd be buying it)
As for a full build, I've already got everything accept the frame... Cos I'm impatient. But if I buy the 2016 frame it'll work out at about £1k in total. So a much higher spec than the otp builds genesis offer in that price range. So I'm still happy. I guess. Ha

No crabon fork though

Now I have the dilemma of:
Is 931 with a steel fork a benefit/upgrade over 725 with a carbon fork (and chain stay caliper mount)
I have literally no idea of tubing and their attributes.

931 is stainless.

Plenty of technical info on the Reynolds site. I don't know what the marketing from Genesis says about the two. 931 is shiny... As it's the Croix, not the Equilibrium, I assume there's difference in the geo, guess it'll handle differently...

Good point. I'll compare the geo tonight. I know the croix has bigger tyre clearance which isn't 'currently' something I require. But that's not to say I may want that in the future. Or not. I think I should stick with waiting for the equilibrium.

Pete... I've got a very similar frame to the Croix in 931 and have had it for a good few years now. I have had it both with carbon and currently on steel forks. It weighs a lot as a complete bike, but stripped to the frame it's very light.

I don't think I would change it for anything, rides really well. Is much stiffer than a titanium frame. Wipes clean. And generally a do it all bike. The clearance on the Croix for bigger tyres is a bonus in my opinion. Only 1 thing to consider is that like mine it might have quite a high BB. I wouldn't mind mine being a bit lower - but that might be remedied by 650b...

I would say the one in classifieds is a good buy...

I think there may be a reason I haven't bought anything else yet. I want the equilibrium.
But that croix is another bargain, with a ck headset and bb as well... Crazy.

To satisfy my urge to spend money on bike parts while I wait for the frame to be released I picked up a garmin and light mount. Should tidy up the front end for the winter commutes in the dark. New mount from Tate Labs.
