-
• #653
Ordered some and should have been here today but with bank holiday, probably won’t get them till Tuesday.

Are those brakes single pivot? If so get some 7700/7800 dual pivots.
-
• #655
Single pivit brake calipers work fine just fit the dura ace 9000 pads and holders I running these old brake caliper with brand new brake pads and the front calipers are sora calipers with ultrega pads 6800. Work no problem.

Well done @HoKe - this looks great. I think you did the right thing getting it fixed properly so I'm glad you didn't listen to me.
I'm not surprised you're finding those brakes crap. If only you knew a fellow forumunger who was selling a very nice set because he's putting a modern groupset on his Colnago ;)

50/50 i guess, yes I'm happy it is fixed, but annoyed how long it took repair and respray properly.
@Fox you selling a pair? I've actually changed the shoes and pads and it does make a major difference as @billygoat8 and @Lolo said.
I took it down the road and the braking has improved so much i couldn't believe it. Considering it a heavy bike and wheels it stops immediately. Properly not as nice as dual pivot but amazingly well considering it is a single pivot.
Still in two minds of getting 7403 brakes, as the looks of the 7402 suits the bike of this period. But gathering parts of 9000's to hopefully upgrade the parts and wheels eventually.

Also, a little vanity on the side, the bike did make a cheeky appearance on GNC:

Glad it worked!

Me too, didn't want to give up on these brakes so easily.
-
• #663
The cheapest upgrade no need for new calipers (yet) 😁 I learnt that with my track day cars a set off upgrade pads make enough difference.

@Fox you selling a pair?
No, what made you think that?
Yes, I'm selling a very nice pair.
Still in two minds of getting 7403 brakes, as the looks of the 7402 suits the bike of this period.
This is a '94 right? Same year as mine if so. The DA 7403 SLR-S were made from 1991-1996, so are the correct brakes for this bike*. By the time your bike was made the BR-7402's would have been discontinued.

*Also they will look and work better!

Wanted to get a old school DA cassette, they are 100grams lighter but consider the weight of the frame and the cost of these cassette on eBay it was a no brainier to get a cassette for less than £20 instead of £200.
I've also got one of these, barely used and definitely not £200...
-
• #666
Ah, just checked and my old school DA cassette is screw on so no use to you.
However, I can sort you out with the correct FD-7400-F front mech to replace that modern abomination you're using and the correct CN-7401 chain which is so new it still has the factory grease on it :)

But the worse thing that happened to me yesterday on the 80 mile loop was the rear wheel slipping and scuff my beautiful rear stay...MOTHER FUCKERS!!!
This happened to me with my Colnago before I got DA 7400 skewers, I managed to rub a patch of paint off on the inside of the stay :((
Never had any problems after I switched to DA skewers. You need to have a go at yours with some WD40/Autosol to get rid of that pitting!

Received a well deserved “Super nice!”!
Bet it flies like a rocket. Also I like how that GT hybrid on there got some V brake Wound Ups in its makeover

Oh, you got some pictures of these parts (very OCD btw definitely looking for perfection) ;)
-
• #671
What you think my thread is a classified market? ;)
-
• #672
In a straight line amazing, in the lanes, well I'm going to test it on the weekend and see if the handling is better with newer brakes =)
-
• #673
Definitely, still not as strong or modular as dual pivot and my head knows it will be better but my heart say i want to keep the look of these 7402 brakes on this bike.

Do you ride your Look KG 196 to posh or to race if you racing go neo retro and bring it up to date.
Too old and scared to go into corners fast these days, but I just feel I have no confident if there needs to be a sudden stop and these are aluminium rims. They’re fine for slowing down gradually but slowly down fast you really need to brake uncomfortably hard.
@Lolo agreed, these pads probably need to be store away. The rubber on them have no bite.
