@Fox http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/there-was-no-rise-in-scottish-nationalism-understanding-the-snp-victory/
I think this is interesting re:nationalism not necessarily corresponding with an SNP vote...

chuka's shitcanned himself from the lab leadership race. presumably something compromising has been dug up on yer man. or maybe he just can't be arsed.
-

Seems a bit presumptive. He wasn't a brilliant front runner in the race so one of the others may have negotiated a deputy leadership agreement with him. A broad leadership contest within the party won't insprire confidence that they are in a position of strong opposition. They'll want to cement that appearance pretty quickly to rally support from the periphery when standing against new propositions in parliament. The Conservative majority isn't that big so a lot of development in government is going to happen in the margins.

I think it might be this - http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/chuka-umunna-is-the-last-thing-labour-needs--a-proausterity-leader-who-calls-people-trash-10247245.html
In particular this:
Umunna isn't the leader to win them over. He's known for posting on
ASmallWorld, otherwise known as a “Myspace for Millionaires", asking
where he could go out in London to avoid the “trash”. -

I thought that there was an entirely separate race for Deputy Leader, which also has it's own, separate vote.
-
• #909
seems likely. hence the word 'presumably'. it's not like the right wing gutter press don't have form when it comes to digging up peurile, little england offending, bullshit to besmirch politicians they don't like.

Yes, but a nod from the newly elected leader would be a big bonus in the Deputy race.

Cheeky Umbungo (bit racist?) is out of the running for the leadership. Good good.

Pfft. UKIP. I voted Tory. They're like UKIP but are clever enough to pretend they're not so the forruners, poors, disableds etc will still vote for them.
-
• #917
Thanks for giving me the credits…
BTW, you don't seem to be clever like them, and now you know that voting for them doesn't make you became one of them. Keep your honesty going and tell to your colleagues what you have learned.

As far as I can hear,
it started way back around the turn of the Year,
when the BBC (re-)started to allow serial incompetents and borderline fraudsters
like John Redwood and Liam Fox to be representatives of the Tories in interviews.
So UKIP are now tearing themselves to pieces. But more importantly, how could I have never noticed before that Nigel Farage's initials are NF? Nominative determinism at its finest.
