  • Brake discs, floating, 160 and 180, black or gold spider

    Chain ring, 110mm, 44-48t, black, nice, N/W

Chain ring bolts, single ring, 5 pcs, aluminium

I think I can help with some of this, I'll rifle the parts bin.

  • Thank you! Please do and let me know.

    Cheers

  • I have two Hope Floating rotors, 140 and 160 though. Any good?

I also have a Salsa crossing guard ring protector and matching Salsa 44t ring, with associated bolts- 110bcd. Can't find the ring at the moment but it's around somewhere.

Happy to put that in the post if it's useful?

  • Wheel size conundrum is doing my head in at the moment.
Still no insurance money so all drawing board decisions stil.

    I had 29" wheels, 45mm rims with 2.35" tyres measuring about 61mm.
It was fine but very close to the mudguards at the seat stay bridge and not much adjustment of rear wheel either.

Was thinking that a switch to 27.5" could give me both a bit more adjustment clearance for a bit bigger tyres.

BUT, the tyres, I'd like don't come bigger than 2.35 (Schwalbe big one).
No lightish slicks at around 2.5-6 around. :(

  • The Big One is a much better and subtle tire than the Brick Ben's you were coming from, and I think the 4 mm difference between the Schwalbe Big One in 2.35 and a slick in 2.5 is more perceived than real on a city bike.

  • The big bens were my shitty winter tyres, that I just never got around to change back to the nice and supple super motos.

I think the more sensible thing to do would be 27.5, but I don't necessarily want to be all sensible...
I just want to max out as much as possible in the tyre department.
Do you say stick with 29", @Simba ?

  • How about the Schwalbe Super Moto-X?
    http://www.schwalbe.com/en/tour-reader/super-moto-x.html
The come in 27,5" in bigger and biggest.

  • And wheigh over a kilo each.

  • Big ones in 29, tubeless. They're supposed to roll faster than GP4000's (!)

  • If the main issue is wheel adjustment/clearance have you considered a DIY job on the mudguards? You seem pretty adept at making things work. A mudguard with long stays and custom fitted around the seat tube for maximum clearance?

I've been tempted to saw mine in half and add a strip of extra plastic down the middle to widen them out a bit. Could do with marginally longer stays on the rear too, then it would be perfect to move up to 2.35 from the 2.15 I have now.

  • All right. The Big Ones are less than half of that - according to Schwalbe.
But imagine the momentum of a set of 2.8" Moto-X's when you get up to speed..

  • Imagine the momentum when I carry it up and down the stairs to my appartment. :)

  • Aaah, the joy of big city living! #betterthancrossfit

  • Slowly coming along.
I have ordered new stuff for wheels and thanks to forums and a jumble I now have chain ring and a headset.
Still some way to go and the thought of trying to find time to build wheels and put everything together scares me a bit.

  • Parts have been trickling in during the past weeks.
I've used various forums for second hand stuff and a few online shops too.

I think I have everything now besides bottle cages and a new lock.
What I don't have is time to build...

  • What I don't have is time to build...

    How about now?

  • even worse. :(
I started a dream job this summer and am eager to do good.
And the second son is 9 months now and weaning which means more spare time cleaning and comforting than ever.

  • I want to 650Believe.

  • It lives!!

  • Indeed. At long last, what a relief it is.

  • What a beautiful bastard!

  • Love it. Still one of my favourite forum bikes.

  • rawlands are so nice!

  • Pleased it's back! Will it be getting crazy hugging mudguards again?

  • Thanks everyone.

@alialias Part of the decision to go 650 was to get better mudguard clearance. Will use 28 inch by 60 mm mudguards with probably 20 mm of air between them and the tyres.
