  • Jesus, this thread is going to be as long as Dammit's at this rate.

  • We can only hope!

In other news we've got the official RED 22 band on now.

It's totally different to the durace one, holds the mech much further forward and braces it along its whole length, so let's hope that fixes it.

If not i'll have to wait till Dave gets the hollowgram removal tool and we'll have to order some bb30 spacers.

  • You have a hollowgram removal tool mate, was in the package with the hollowgrams :)

  • Oh amazing, thanks!

  • You can also bodge a Hollowgram removal tool out of two Park CCP-22s and a suitable length of metal rod inside the spindle. NOT RECOMMENDED unless you're absolutely desperate.

  • Yeah don't do that - there's absolutely no good reason to given the removal tool is about £15 from ebay / Qwerty / Cannondale Spares etc. God knows why they don't ship the thing with them I don't know.

Or you can borrow one from me. Or use the mystery parts that Noblakes sent :)

  • whilst spotter probably wouldn't have wanted me too, I wish i new the above before shelling out £25 on that tool to use it once!

  • Better that than busting a pair of £300 crank arms.

  • So this is where we are at.

The yaw front mech doesn't rub when in the big chainring through any of the rear cassette, high to low.

The problem is in the small chainring. Here there is rubbing on the inside of the front mech when in the lowest (ie biggest) 4 of the cassette.

This rubbing can be removed by rotating the position of the front mech. However, doing this creates rubbing when in the biggest chainring and highest (ie smallest) cassette cog.

Spacing out the cranks is not a solution as the rub is caused by the travel from the rear cassette rather than the chainring.

To my mind the solution is that the front mech needs to drop further in towards the frame. However, it is at the limit of how far it will move in, ie the limit screw is all the way out. As mentioned up thread we've tried using different band-on adaptors to try to move the mech inwards without success.

Has anyone who's set up Force yaw got any suggestions?

  • buy a shimano groupset

  • Chain line pics

  • also is there any difference in these other than graphics

  • i assume you've watched this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnG3t7TyRm0

  • You assume correctly

  • Can you move the mech forward on the clamp, and lower?

  • By forward do you mean rotate it front end in, rear end out? We've tried that. As it is there's no room for movement between the mech and the band-on adaptor, it's a 'perfect' snug fit.

There is currently room for it to go lower but only by 1mm or so. We have tried it set lower and encountered the same problem though.

  • So you are saying: when set up to spec, i.e. everything aligned with the markers on the cage, the chain rubs on the cage when in small / big, because the cage cannot move further inboard?

In that case, I don't understand why spacing the crank further outboard won't help?

Are you running an axle with a lip, or not?

Out of interest, as that bike shares the same rear end as my Caad9, does it look like the FD is too far towards the back of the bike?

  • I can answer the first part of that and say it definitely can't go in board more. Dave tried spacing it out but it didn't work for some reason

  • Are you going to stick with the MKV rings? They are a bit shit. That won't help matters. Assume that's a smallish big ring? If it was rubbing in 53/12 I could kinda live with it :)

  • Space it out, I reckon.

  • If you need me I could swing by on Friday after work?

  • Ideally not rotate at all but move it forward on the bracket (if possible?), towards the front of the bike.

The closer the mech is to the crank axle, the less the range of chain movement the mech has to deal with.

    So lower is better too.

I think @Howard is on the same page...

does it look like the FD is too far towards the back of the bike?

  • As a last resort you could stick a larger small ring in.

  • rep

although i feel for you spotter. must suck

  • Are you going to stick with the MKV rings? They are a bit shit. That won't help matters.

I did wonder if I should buy some SRAM rings to see if helps, the pickup on the big ring is a big poop
