cheeky! they are properly greased, it's more to do with the shape the of them, just not much to grip. i've got the fluted ones and the cross hatched and find both a little fiddly. but they do look lovely, and everyone knows cycling is all about looks :)

Ordered, if they are not here by Saturday, they wont make the build!
Can't wait to take this out! It'll eventually become my commuter when I'm back in London. Does anyone know of decent black metal mud guards?

Hammered VO guards?
or PDWs? not black but fairly light. -

Get pdw. The only guards worth bothering with

Cross post with the Weekend Rides thread alert.
Manically sourced all the parts for this so I could ride London to Paris with a mate this bank holiday weekend. Big shout out @Nik for getting this put together so quickly - apart from one puncture, it was mechanically spot on.
Couple of pics from the trip:
Pie and carbs to get things started;
We started from LMNH then headed down towards Brixton-Streatham following @youramericanlover 's route - so far. Go a majorly lost when my Garmin died outside the sout downs, charge fail. The light completely went so we had to hoon it around to Newhaven to make the ferry in time - just got on;
All the cabins were full, so a chair for a 2 hour kip it was - 5 hour crossing, several beers and fish and chips later - makes you look like this;
It was farking cold. The ferry was full of cyclists and luckily we followed a small group of riders onto the Avenue Verte where we settled into our own pace. Went past some gorgeous buildings and scenery;
As soon as the sun rose, we were in 30 degree heat all the way through Normandy - seriosuly beautiful weather.
It became apparent from the few hills in the South Downs that my riding buddy may have overestimated his fitness. I mentally parked the 24hr target we were heading for and just enjoyed the ride. Stopped for lunch in Gournay-du-Bray with some fellow cyclists.
We'd been on the bike from 6am until 1pm at this point, so decided to head further South East to Gisors and get a room for the night (circa. 44 miles from Paris). Nice little city so recommend that as stop over if needed.
6am start, after wine, saki and Gin the night before - luckily the route out of Gisors after one climb, we were rewarded with this;
Which was the start of the Parc Naturel regional. The route down into Pointoise was flat, and very easy rolling. We passed through several sleepy villages, the sound of a Chris King Freewheeling at speed will stay me forever!
[/url]
From Pointoise it was an awful ride for the final 12 miles through indutrial estates into Paris. We got there just before 12pm - in 30 degree heat was the perfect time:
Awesome Bank Holiday. Total miles was something under 200 after we took into account all the wrong turns.
Oh and the bike completed:

Epic trip; great weather. You've inspired me to go light touring :)
Did you take Eurostar back?
How did the bike perform? -
• #188
Great result and a fun maiden voyage it seems :)

@Amey, the weather really made it. We were so lucky, it pissed it down as soon as we got back to London.
Got the Eurostar back yes, managed to book the bikes on with Euro Dispatch the weeke before for £30 a piece, worked very well. Drop off and pick up was seamless.
For a first ride out, it was pretty good. The TRP mini V's are excellent, highly recommend these. The wide Paenti rims were very comfortable, good in the cimbs, stable on decent and comfortable on gravel - 28's worked perfct and only one flat with Panaracers.
I'm used to Force 22 so dropping down to 10 speed Force felt a touch clunky.

Update, few more shots on the 'Rotta from last weekend, upgraded Shifters to Red 22 and replaced the BB with CK one. The SRAM GXP's are made of cheese!
Fucking love that bike.

Third time lucky uploading the photos.....
So Friday was a big Goodbye to the Serotta - riding it through Victoria park enroute to Lee Valley, I was seriosuly thinking "I can't sell this!" it is in my opinion pretty much perfect. But onwards and upwards. I was fortuante enough to meet @DWatkinsLDN - great chap and knew it was going to proper home to be cherised - Enjoy.
Anyway heres a last pic from me;
And in with the new;
Which is a 2013 Moots Compact - with Chorus 11 spd & Zipp 303's.
The wheelbase is a bit shorter than the Serotta, its almost at toe overlap, but means that the handling is amazingly tight and quick. The little decscending I've done with it is very stable and confidence inspiring; a notable difference now running a modern(ish) 1-1/8th headtube with A-head over a 1inch headtube and quill which was quite twitchy and springy. In other words - fucking love it!

I've basically got no cash to tinker with it, but it does need new Chainrings. What does eberyone reocmmend apart from the OEM Campag?

My Chorus 11 speed chainset has Miche chainrings. They came with the set, so can't really say anything about their durability but they seem fine to me.
