He probably wanted his saddle height changed again

These are just two examples that show that the leadership of Team DSM, as the team is called today, rules with a pretty heavy hand. At least, that's how we – the outside world – see it anyway.

Is it? Given the amount of time and effort devoted to optimising performance, having a rider decide he wants his saddle height changed in a race seems like a risk to me. We don't have the full story, of course, but I'd expect any team that wants to get the best out of their riders to have an opinion on this.

I think the point Matt Winston makes is interesting too: the cycling press love this DSM-is-a-crazy-cult angle so don't feel the need to speak to DSM management on a story before publishing.

A few mm I'd say yes. The body changes and some days you just don't feel right. Especially in a big multi day race, I could see the want to go a couple mm lower. Honestly a couple mm is nothing, it won't hurt but might make the rider feel better. Not letting them adjust is just going to make them annoyed and thinking about it.
If they're going to be so rigid, they should have someone there on hand to approve or not at the point.
