You can turn the beeping off on the Garmin.

Breitling used to sponsor the Giro D'Italia in the 50s too. They even made some special edition watches.

And not in the same price bracket but contrary to popular belief, Festina made watches not drugs

Turns out they still have a collection with Richard Virenque! Unbelievable.

The cycling podcast is actually quite funny today.
Friebe made the mistake of saying Sivakov had cycled to the Moon and halfway back in regards to elevation. As it turns out that he was about 380,000km out on his calculations and they have spent this whole podcast taking the piss out of him.

It's incredible isn't it. It's no more in poor taste than Rapha celebrating iconic dopers whilst at the same time decrying the state of pro cycling and how the public views it.
-
• #30909
Yeah don't get me started on Rapha!

And we now we can add ‘Siv’ to Rog and Pog.

• #30911
It’s no different to Maserati, Tour of Yorkshire and BC getting into bed with David Millar.

The worst thing about the Cycling Podcast is the use of the smug nicknames. I do listen to most episodes however.

Oh come on. Go with it. It’s all tongue-in-cheek.

I think you need to spend a bit more time with your David Mellor catalogue. That’s Davido Colander.

In a similar vein, I watched GCN+'s 'Legends' doc on Andrea Tafi. No mention of his doping and I found his recent history of him riding eastern European UCI races in his late 40s/ early 50s a bit sus.

The one about Andy Schleck is pretty good. It seems like it took him a while to get his head straight and realise that he had to move on. Whilst he probably had quite extreme pressures, it's probably a fair reflection on the burnout a number of riders are experiencing and the depression when they quit and realise that to most of the world they're just men who rode bikes for a bit rather than champions.

This is interesting, DSM leaking gossip about Hirschi;

Crikey. Strong allegations.
-
• #30921
There’s an NDA in place, which doesn’t surprise me, but DSM might have to answer questions as to why they are breaching it.
-
• #30922
he on the PEDs ?
-
• #30923
Oh bloody hell. I loved watching him last year.
Assuming the leak was strategic, they must be distancing themselves from news to come. Otherwise, smearing ex-riders is further positioning the team as a horror-show for neo-pros.
-
• #30924
Hirschi was seen by the team management as a risk - both for the reputation of the team itself and for the sponsors.
he wasn't transparent and didn't give the information the team asked for on specific questions."Do you like disc brakes?"

That appears to be what is being insinuated.
The RM ones are being gifted according to someone who rides for Bahrain who are sponsored by them. I asked him last year why he was wearing a Tissot when he races with RM on his jersey and he said that they are for big dogs and bonuses.
Expensive watches have always been worn by top riders. It's only in the last few years of riders having laptops on their stem that they have disappeared. I'd rather a Richard Mille than a stupid Garmin beeping away...
