Well there's only a couple of riders that win GT's every year. 2019 was a lost year due to his crash and subsequent knee problems, not exactly a steady decline.

I’m happy for Dumoulin. He sounds genuinely relieved to be out of cycling.

Woodsy is off to become froomey’s domestique .. along with Birmingham cyclist dan martin.

Andy Schleck being another highly likeable cyclist that quit early... I’d rather watch any of them than Poga.

Both the Schlecks (and their dad) are pretty nice guys as it happens. Andy really struggled mentally in those last couple of years riding; expectations weighed heavily on him. I think it shows as Frank still rides a lot but Andy not so much.

Hmm I have a real disdain for this sofa kind of sports psychology. Criticism of someone who is in the very top % of a sport because they aren’t tough enough is lost on me.

I’m surprised we don’t get more cyclist having such issues maybe we do but it’s at a lower level. Seems all sports where dieting is a major element have struggles.

Who is that talking at the start who says they will be one of the tour leaders alongside primoz?

I wouldn’t say that it’s a criticism as such, just that it is a shame he’s out of the sport for a while because he is struggling mentally with the pressure and expectation, mixed with other physical and family factors.

I’m certain that I wouldn’t be able to maintain a world class level of athletic performance for any length of time, and rather I am in awe of the people who can.

I’d agree that there are loads of issues in all sports, gymnastics, boxing, Taekwondo, come to mind.
