Wonder if 10 days of racing on the bounce meant concentration had wandered a bit when it split today.

A lot of riders got caught out by a roundabout, those who went one side kept their position, those who chose the other side found it was longer and lost forty places.

Partly his own fault, DS Nico Verhoeven says in an interview. Bennett asked to go get bottles, even though there was no immediate need for water. They wanted to send Amund, but Bennett persisted. Sometimes it's just an unfortunate coincidence...

So Schachmann rather than Bennett for the tour team. Completely get the pick based on pre-Tour form and team national identity, but is there a reason Schachmann has been so far off the pace in the sprint stages so far?

Schachmann is a short stage race specialist, not a sprinter. Bennett isn’t at the Tour because Sagan is.
