I climbed Finestre on a hot, dusty day and it was bloody hard. I remember commenting at the time, “I wouldn’t fancy doing that in the cold and wet”.

Cannot wait.

My thoughts well questions;
What tyres will they be running?
Might it suit a less traditional climber, Someone who is a little heavier?

It’s a relentless climb, 9% the whole way, and when you hit the gravel it feels like 11%. For 9km. I don’t remember wishing I was heavier.

It'll suit someone who loves hairpins. Endless, disorientating, steep hairpins.

My question is, seeing as there’s still another two big climbs and 70km or so to go after Finestre, is it too early in the stage for any of the GC guys to try anything?

Too early for anything other than trying to ween Yates from his domestiques.

It's a long, smooth, technical descent-someone with the beans to get away could get a good gap and preserve it over the fairly gentle Sestriere I guess but then you'd need to rinse and repeat with the Jafferau which is much steeper.

Fuck knows-Froome now sitting at 10-1 for the overall though so people must fancy it

This seems odd.
Last big day he suffered terribly the next. I have no idea what to think but it should be exciting at least.

I put 15 european shekels on froome at 17-1 with the logic that if he won I would be slightly less disappointed than I would be otherwise.

Yates’ biggest danger is now Froome. He’s not going to catch him on GC but he’s making Pozzovivo and Dumoulin react plenty.
