Might still get the ‘17 Vuelta too....

He was a full on pantomime villain in my eyes until today.

A villain until a heroic win!

Not a race which will endure much repeat watching but I admired the ruthless execution.
Impressed by Ewan. Suspected the distance might have been too much.
Roll on De Panne, Gent Wevelgem and Dwars Door Vlaanderen.

Yeah, he was going quick at the end, had a nice gap on the rest of the bunch. Could definitely have been his race if Nibbles hadn't been up the road.

Was thinking, if Cavendish had any luck it would be none the now.
He seems to have taken more than his share of knocks over the years. I'm not his biggest fan but I hope he heals quickly and gets a couple more wins before he chucks it..

Well I said Cav would climb off but not like that. Ewan up from 10th to 2nd but not good enough against that nibbles attack. The bastard.

Got a mini heart attack when he hit the spectator’s phone at 500m to go.
wow, well spotted! I saw him jerk his shoulders but thought it was just him trying to mentally dig in

but first comes spring ;-)
Vos looked good too in the Trofeo Binda... did she suffer a mechanical or something just before Niewiadoma attacked? Saw her getting back to the front group just too late. I hope she can get back to her best again this year

I missed the crash, but Greipel is out of the classics after breaking his collarbone at M-SR. Great shame, he loves Flanders and works very hard for his teammates there.

Thanks. I see James Knox is riding for Quick-Step in Catalunya, as well as loads more young climbers, including Bernal, Mas, Gaudu... and it’s hard to believe it’s two years since Hugh Carthy was part of this top 10 - hopefully he can have a better year.

Not to forget Tao.

Ha, I was waiting for that.

I thought it was the Cavendish crash, but it appears he crashed on the descent of the Poggio. The tv coverage showed two riders down, one was Lotto, so presumably Greipel, but cut straight back to the action.
-
• #15448
Yeah I read it was on the descent, but buggered if I saw it at all.
E3 Haralbacke on a Friday annoying, will have to record.

Greipel had crashed early on, before the Cav crash (poss he went down twice though). They said it was high speed (so probably Poggio) with Clarkey.

Clarke’s nasty crash was with McLay with about 45 km to go.
Tough for Greipel (yup, he already crashed in the feed zone) as he was obviously in great shape. Though Keukeleire (I think) was caught up in Cavendish’s crash, he still had Debusschere and De Buyst with him over the top of the Poggio, before De Buyst lost a wheel on the descent around 4 km from the finish, bringing them both down.
Yep. He could still win in Liege.
