I hope Dumoulin can recover by tomorrow. Shame we didn't get to see whether he would have hung with the front group today.

Camera work is all over the shop but shows Zakarin going...

NQ doesn't look all that, would have expected him to be able to put more time into Tom today, especially if he was somewhat unwell. I can't imagine he was gaming them with a fake poo.
-

He was most likely Ill, and if GTs make you ill then you can't win them. So we saw if he would have hung with the front group "today".

not disputing! wouldn't dare. it was just a bit of a shit day.
-

There are a lot of ifs in this. Equally possible he had a dodgy stomach today and could be on top of the world again tomorrow.

One lesson here I think is that if a GC rider goes down leave him the fucking ditch and keep going, you probably won't be rewarded for your kindness in return

If he isn't sick, I hope he can get his head back in to the right place for tomorrow. Race leader presentation was pretty brutal.

From the finish lines quotes, he just really needed a shit. Weren't Sunweb having a BBQ on the last rest day? Too much Frikandel?

staff bbq, not riders

sad but true

He's going to be fired up. I expect him to do something in return. An eye for an eye mate.
Oh and he only lost 30ish seconds riding all by himself. He's feeling as good as ever, barring the bad stomach.
-
• #12216
he just explained in an interview that he's not sick but sometimes, under severe muscular strain at high altitude, his stomach doesn't get enough blood to digest food so has to get rid of its contents asap
if this wouldn't have happened I don't think Nibali or Quintana would have put much time, if any, into him on the last climb.
-
• #12217
I don't think they'd have put any time into him.
He might have even put time into Quintana, he wasn't looking so strong today. -
• #12218
NQ did not look good today, probably kept his poo in..
Hopefully Dumoulin has a belly full of fire for tomorrow -

Enjoyed that stage, Dumoulin put in a cracking ride at the end on this, going to be a entertaining week
-
• #12222
Yeah he really left it all on the road
-
• #12223
Magnificent stage. The way Quintana waited and then, so tenderly and caringly, wiped clean Dumoulin's dirty bottom, that is real sportsmanship. That is what makes this sport we all love, so great.

I didn't watch it live, but just read Tom was smashing back the gels and the commentators even noted how many he was going through compared to others. Was that really the case? If so, isn't that a rookie mistake, no wonder his guts gave up and he was moaning of stomach cramps
-

Tomorrow he'll be eating sugar free gummy bears and in even worse trouble
