At the time I didn't really care. I wasn't that interested in boxing. Thinking about it now I doubt anyone can take any joy in his professional implosion.

Perhaps my sympathy for these somewhat faceless domestiques arises because I'm buried half way through Rough Ride; these are guys who have made all the sacrifices and yet are mostly riding for someone else. As I understand it they are not likely to be overcompensated and another professional grand tour appearance, GT finish or stage win is always in doubt. To DNF a grand tour and let your team down due to handbags must be absolutely crushing.

That's sad news. Puts all the squabbling into perspective.
