  • Scroll up a little...

  • Mechamorgan I saw your strava you guys beasted 100 miles at near 20mph average yesterday.. Not sure if I won't be a little slow, I was thinking of aiming for more like 16mph.

(We did 30 miles on Thursday and I averaged 15mph but that was fixed on 46/19, spin to win! I'll be road biking this evening).

  • Beautiful sunny day for a club run yesterday! We weren't absolutely hammering it, some of the guys have done that route at about 35-36kph average before...

I'll throw the above route out and see what everyone thinks - I'm not sure we'll all get out until about 7 though?

Caz - happy to ride at whatever pace you like! I'm only going out to top the tan up and keep my legs supple.

  • Look at the weather! Surely someone wants to come out on a ride this evening.. Could meet at Lea Valley Ice centre at 6:30?

It's a lovely sunny day but I haven't got my bike back from storage yet :p

  • Haha, 20mph average for 100 miles is quick in my book! No worries Morgan, let us know on here/ via PM.

Boffers- Get that bike back, stat!

  • I'm going to ditch out of this one I think - the thought of Lea Bridge road twice in 2 days is too much for me.

I'm probably going to roll around Richmond to loosen the legs up a bit, if anyone wants to join?

  • potentially in 6:30 at ice rink?

    No worries, understandable!

I need to check that I have a route on my garmin when I get in, I'll PM you my deets.

  • Is Lea bridge road hell? I've got to ride up to Roydon Friday evening and I've not gone north before.

  • It's not the best fun ever and it'll be worse on a Friday but as long as you keep your wits about you it's fine. There will be big queues of slow moving/ stopped cars, the 'cycle path' is a bit of a joke so I just stay on the road.

  • I've never ridden it during rush hour(s) so you just get people coming past at way over the speed limit and yeah the cycle lane is about a foot wide and veers on and off the pavement at points - the best thing to do is ride just outside it, to the right of a ridge in the tarmac.

I think the main thing is that it's pretty long, straight and boring with an uphill drag in both directions!

  • Did you ride last night Caz? Maybe a list or whatever is needed for Thursday - 6:30 at the Ice Rink.

  • I think the main thing is that it's pretty long, straight and boring with an uphill drag in both directions, some of the worst driving ever, a godawful road surface, suicidal pedestrians, non-sensical bus lanes, cars parked where-ever the fuck they want, and worst of all you're in fucking Walthamstow

FTFY. These factors aren't helped by the fact that you will have usually just gone hell for leather down Epping New Road trying to keep some ridiculous pace and burned up the last of your energy at the end of a ride. This makes Lea Bridge about 6km of horrid, almost bonking stop-start nonsense.

Bun Lea Bridge Road, I hate it.

  • Our route avoids all that crap on the way back.

  • Nah, it's not that bad. I have a love hate relationship with it for sure but I find it can actually be surprisingly quiet heading out of town of a weekday evening, even on a Friday. I've headed out at about 7pm on a Friday night before and it's been super quiet. Sometimes there is actually more traffic coming in than going out: Essex heading out for the evening?

Weekday nights are way better than Saturday afternoons, when it turns into complete gridlock if you're coming back in from Essex.

Later on it's a lot quieter of course. My preferred approach is to go hell for leather down Epping New Road, then keep going hell for leather down Lea Bridge Road flat out until I turn off for Chatsworth Road, getting it over with as quickly as possible.

I see your route goes via Stratford/Bow Road, personally give me Lea Bridge over that any day (also Grove Road is my commute, do not want) but each to their own :)

The traffic has been terrible this week generally for some reason, so maybe that's a factor?

I will get round to joining one of these by the way, I was swimming last night and too tired the time before but I'll try and make the next one.

  • If we're still doing Thursday. I'll be lo-skiddery.

I could do with the same for my ATACs. They're creaking like hell!

  • Anybody else riding fixed by the way or just me?

  • I'll be on gears.
