  • Unlike in a standard ITT, where by you have to remain a certain distance from the passing rider because of aerodynamic advantages, do the same rules apply for a mountain time-trial, despite there being little-to-no aero benefits, with the intention to hang on for pacing benefits?

They will probably still be climbing at a speed where aero benefits are present. Drafting rules still apply though they don't enforce them on the flat stages so they're hardly going to bother on this one.

  • Yeah you can't sit behind Evans, laughing. Unacceptable.

He'll win this stage by 8 minutes after Quintana rides the wrong direction..

  • while I always enjoy cuddles' never say die attitude and gurn, he's never come across as an 'excellent guy'. Doesn't seem fun or particularly insightful about much, apart from being a bit bitter and chippy. Still, he's a pro cyclist and not my neighbour, so...

You ride a GT and see how much insight you can offer us. Not to mention he's hardly going to spill the beans about how he underperformed or what his tactics will be if this or that. It's a standard sports interview - "We tried, we won/we lost, it was hard, everyone was tired/awesome, blah blah".

  • Sweet wheelie by Nathan Haas!

  • Quintana looks like a pokemon. such pink. much rose. wow.

  • I wish I could find an unused meeting room to watch this on the sly...

Looks like I've found a job to do after all this afternoon.

  • Aru over 2mins faster than Pozzo!

  • Quintana is a beast.

    Smashed it.

  • Kelly pronounces Quintana as Quim-tana...

  • I hope you've been playing along at home, there's only a few days left...

It's a shame Mick Jagger couldn't stay in pink, but equally chuffed for Quintana. Thoroughly deserved.

  • quintana is a beast.

    soon!

  • I predict Quim-tana will deliver the knockout blow on monte Zoncolan.

  • He should ditch the pink aero wellies.

  • He's 24, winning the Giro, sponsors his own team, has a wife, a kid, and is generally a dude.

He can wear whatever the fuck he likes as far as I'm concerned. The wee man is pure win.

  • I just wish they would sort out a pink bike for him. The bar tape is just not cutting it.

  • Arent movistar quite strict on bike colours though? Thats why Jesús Herrada didnt get a spanish national champs colour bike

  • Excellent hopefully it will be struck out over the weekend:)

  • Can't stand watching dickheads on the road running alongside riders and pushing them as they go past-i'm always just waiting for someone to knock a rider off and ruin their ride. Think Aru almost too out some wankstain taking a photo of him with his cunting iphone...

  • I hope you've been playing along at home, there's only a few days left...

It's a shame Mick Jagger couldn't stay in pink, but equally chuffed for Quintana. Thoroughly deserved.

'Making the calculation' would have got you a few points today.

  • 'Big favourites' is another one

I like the way he says thirty – 'Torty'

  • I much prefer the french eurosport commentary-a mix of for example, overly earnest and fullsome debate on the benefit of carbon soled shoes, glibly followed by the statement ''I don't have time to ride more than an hour anyway, I don't care what I have on my feet'' combined with a raffish, distinctly gallic and slightly malicious bitchiness and humour, plus they actually talk about doping and whatever gossip is floating about.

They also have the slightly pathetic habit of pretending Rolland (or any French rider) might win, and spend a lot of time analysing this before being made to look a bit foolish, then rubbishing them. A bit like the English with the world cup. So that the uninvested outsider can get extra entertainment from their obvious disappointment.

But there's always a glint of sly humour or over the top dandyism and no Irish ex-pro slurring and ah-ing like he's recovering from a few whiskies and a stroke, which is always a good thing. Or Carlton fucking Kirby trying desperately to fill the silence in between Kelly's words.

  • I enjoy the French commentary. It's definitely better than any English-language commentary.

  • Yes! much more laughter and general banter :D
