I'm tempted to hire a boat for a week over the summer and go open me some locks, particularly that area where there are 16 in a row.

Canal boating is great fun. I know a good route that starts in Leighton Buzzard that has a good number of locks and a really long tunnel which isn't too hard to drive as the canal is also quite wide.

as the canal is also quite wide.

And the boats are quite narrow.
