  • I rode out to Bath and Bristol early Sunday morning, straight out the A4. Was actually quite nice.

I'm not tempted... that road is depressing.

Are you going to set out early and say hello as you pass back or set out late and say hello as your hammer through?

  • Anyway having used some clever Garmin stuff and some Maths I've come up with the following:

Start point 1: Farnborough Station (12-14mph) route

Train from Waterloo: 9.39 am (fast) or 9.42 (slow)
Set off at 10.30am riding 92.8m 12-14mph should take about 6.5-7.5 hours.

    1. T4
    2. hats

    3. Dr Cake
    4. middleofnowhere (fixed)
    5. Ultracrepidarian
    6. wools (FUCKING AY)
    7. KT Bee (I think maybe the fast group KT?)
    8. bape victim
    9. braker

Start point 2: Trafalgar Square route
    (followed by the above)

Setting off 10.00am riding 127m at an unsocial (17-20mph average) pace should take 6.5/7.5 hours.

    1. BenJam
    2. middleofnowhere (geared)
    3. Rod Munch

    4. Steve
    5. Howard
    6. vunugu
    7. croft
    8. Hovis

i.e. the chasing group should catch the others toward the end.

I see I'm not anywhere on the list. Sadly, this is a reflection of reality; no way I can make this with everything else going on. Much sadness on my part. Have a good one.

  • boo...

  • Oi, that's my line.

  • MoN are you coming with gear (I guess EPO) or fixed (on cortisone) ?

  • I think I'm probably going to pootle along, fixed with the fun group (being post Guinness ride).

The TNRC Deluxe route, which I thought was lifted from Braker, had a right after the garage in Devizes http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2754765
or is there a different garage?

  • There is a possibility that Hattie and I won't be able to make this.
We're moving house next Wed and have A LOT still to do, so losing an entire weekend day is quite a big deal.
    Fingers crossed tho...

  • If anyone would like to do all of our packing so that we can go on the ride this would be much appreciated. Anyone?

ride saturday, get ready sunday. done!

  • Aha! I see, no worries :) I'm in London Thursday/Friday next week if you want to meet me and give me a change of clothes etc. instead of carry them. PM me.

PS I would join you but I'm doing a fair amount of riding atm and a hall pass isn't that easy to get :)

Ah cheers dude. Made some calls and it turns out none of my friends will be in Bristol this weekend, so no longer riding back.

    What a relief.

  • Anyone looked into the train journey home? Wondering what time, roughly...

  • Howard it's up to you, if the weather's good I'll be stoking a BBQ till late otherwise I'll be in the pub (probably the King's Arms or the Bath Brew House) till late. Win win!

  • Coolbeans. Will sort something out.

  • Is there any space for me to join from Trafalgar Square? Or is it too late?

  • never too late, all comers welcome. Add your name to the list.

What train times people booking for the return?

  • What train times people booking for the return?

Well, yes, this is quite the conundrum. Looks like it's going to be a classic April day, so you could arrive damp, in which case hanging around too long might not be great. But there is the prospect of BBQ and drinking, and random groupsave options. But with the later it's never cut and dry if a) you'll save money and b) you'll get your bike on the train.

Leaning towards booking an evening train and bringing a change of clothes. Or buying a change of clothes on arrival.

  • Or get so drunk you don't care then, travel back naked.

  • if people are worried about getting wet they can either HTFU or give me a bag with a change of clothes thursday/friday as I'll be in London at an all day meeting.

  • Or get so drunk you don't care then, travel back naked.

    or dis.

  • Is it socially acceptable to join the slow group on gears? Fancy the slow group fixed, but I don't actually have a working fixed bike right now. Although the new one should be finished by then it keeps finding new and interesting ways to test my GCSE metalwork skills...

I might have been up for the fast group on gears until you subtly raised the average speed from 16-18 to 17-20!

Yep, but you carry the beers.

    heh

Pete, bring yourself on the fast ride. I'm kind of guessing the pace but I can do about 30kph average over 100k of flat alone and I suspect as a group we can do that for the 200.

  • does anyone have a spare 10sp shimano rear wheel? Steve has snapped a spoke and needs a loan for the day...
