Will this have tight clearance for mudguard as well Saint Dammit?

Interesting. Are there any PF track cranks? Rotor? Or is there a power meter that works best with PF30?
I've got a 110-144 converter, which both allows track rings to mount to compact cranks and also moves the ring to give the correct chainline.
Rotor make a 165mm 3D+, and I've already got a 172.5 pair on my CX bike I can experiment with (and the 175mm SRM equipped pair on the Time Machine.
That aside, I could also fit my Cannondale SiSl cranks on this, which are native BB30, whereas the Rotor 3D+ can be fitted to a BSA shell as they are their own standard.
Of course, I may never do this- there is a Pwoertap in the rear wheel of this bike.
But it's nice to have options, even if they are never used.
Ed- yes, this will have mudguards.

Are you still sticking with the 3T forks?
Also did Matt have any of the concerns Ryan did over the BB30?
-
• #230
BB30 != PF30 although the later enables and is designed for the use of BB30 cranks
PF30 places similar although not as exacting demands on fabrication as BB30. The shell is reamed back to spec after braising.

You cook it?

• #232
Or did you mean brazing?

• #233
Yeah that. I'm hungry

No, can't fit mudguards under them (notice a trend?!) they are for sale, 3T Funda Team, inch and an eighth steerer, with box- not fake, unlike 99% on ebay these days.
Also did Matt have any of the concerns Ryan did over the BB30?
PF30 is (as Howard says) much less precise than BB30- largely the reason behind it, as sticking to the BB30 standard was too hard for a lot of frame producers, at a price point they wanted to be at anyway.
The Paragon PF30 shells don't distort, and once reamed are perfect for a PF30 BB.

Seems a waste not to use the post mount for something.

i would pick disc brakes over a specific dynamo, they are all pretty much the same.

Your build threads have shrunk the forum to its most readable.
Very nice. From current appearance I'd be leaving the frame raw.
Please leave all your bikes to me - we go way back after all, Nigel.

Any particular reason for the swiveling/sliding dropouts? Considering the normal caliper brakes. Just to open up for ss/fixed use?
Looking good.
-
• #240
Goal for this is year round use, hence mudguards and, as this will never see "proper" descents, clinchers.
The rocker dropouts allow the chain to be tensioned for fixed use, but removed and replaced with none of the hassle of close-fitting mudguards and track ends.
-
• #241
Why did you drop the idea of forward facing dropouts? Aesthetics?
-
• #242
I just fancied trying the rockers, simple as that really.
-
• #243
I have those drop-outs. Work really well. Much easier then a simple slotted drop out to use. Seems to look right where ever you have the wheel too.
-
• #244
Are there paint plans in place for this one? Another Penguin theme?
-
• #245
Nah, this is a prototype for series production, the Penguin (whilst also, in a way, a prototype) is a very personal bike, at the risk of sounding very wanky.
-
• #246
But once you actually start moving the dropouts to increase/decrease chain tension, aren't you going to start fouling the mudguard almost immediately?
-
• #247
The position of the mudguard is fixed in relation to the wheel, wheel moves, 'guard moves.
You need to be careful not to pull the 'guard into a funny shape by moving the wheel too far, but that's down to initial setup rather than on-the-road fettling.
What's key is that if you have a puncture you should simply be able to pull the wheel out, fix the flat, then refit the wheel with the convenience of a normal, modern roadbike style dropout.

• #248
Plus mudguards can flex a bit, definatatly enough for sight chain tension.
Seems a waste not to use the post mount for something.
I don't really understand what I am looking at ∆ here? Are you just flagging the dropouts?
-
• #249
There is a disc brake mount on the dropout, I'll be running fixed, and won't be using it.
-
• #250
Oh right.
So were you after suggestions?
