  • Or rice

  • Or just have a piss and a Jelly Baby

  • I got married in Needham Market, about 100m North of the course. /csb

  • Congratulations, you kept that secret!!!!!!

  • haha, about 8 years ago and divorced since! But thanks for the congrats.

  • Congrats! (on the divorce)

  • A note that I made for myself at the end of the ride last year, I kept it aside to remind me for this year:

Get the map at the start, towards the end people spread and many don't know where they are going. You don't want to get lost and have to go back.

Even if the weather forecast says that there are 15 degrees do bring an extra sweater and a waterproof jacket.

Take a power nap towards the end. 20 minutes will make you feel reborn

base layer is lighter and a nap mid ride is an awful idea after a distance like this keep the legs moving at a steady pace

  • The best advice is middleofnowhere's 'no need to follow the route'. I had a lovely time away from the hoardes (who, to be frank, were starting to get on my tits) when I rode a few years back, got a bit off-course, crossed the A12 much too early near Wickham Market, and rode up by Orford and Snape, through a forest near Leiston and rejoined the route about a mile from Dunwich. Much more peaceful and saw lots of dawn wildlife.

  • Avoiding the masses would be a good thing. I had the route in my GPS so no problems navigating for me, but every junction I happened upon had a hoard of idiots filling the entire width of the road looking at routesheets/maps. I'd get past and carry on, they'd overtake, and then I'd find them all doing the same at the next junction. Must be a shit way to do a ride.

  • Exactly!!

It's only when I was really tired that I started to get annoyed.

  • The point of it all is sharing the ride with the masses.
People eh, what are they like?

  • wtf is all this talk of masses, we won't have to go to churches en route will we?

  • I hope not, I'd probably burst in to flames.

  • Having moved to London fields recently I'm going to have to work hard to not just turn up and do it.

  • I'm out.
Have a weekend in the Peaks planned instead.

I like riding with groups of people who know how to ride in groups.

I dislike riding with groups of people who are utter fuckwits on the road. It's why I won't ever bother with something like London to Brighton, or even CM. (Plus they're both way too short for me to get frothy about.)

To be fair, it was probably only the last 30km of the Dun Run that was a problem, before then I guess people weren't spread out enough that there wasn't always someone ahead to follow.

  • Can not recommend the A12 between Lower Hacheston and Yoxford enough. If you early.

Your words not mine. I don't mind people who aren't confident/etc, everyone learns somewhere, I said I dislike fuckwits.

L2B is full of horror stories of fuckwittery. L2C is getting that way. I hope it never happens to the DD.
