UK Champs & Euro Qualifier 2014 poll

  • you do wonder why there was a point in having a poll though...

    From reading this:

This is a straw poll to gauge interest.

I thought it was quite clear that this was just a poll to find out people preferences/thoughts are on the matter. We don't have confirmed allocation yet, and as Fin says 'this is not the final say'.

  • A straw poll is a vote with nonbinding results.

    justsayin.....

  • As it been entered by teams already who thought it wasn't the sole qualifier it would be off to make it so. Some of those teams might be different if people thought that's who they were trying to qualify with.

  • Would you be playing in a different team if it was the qualifiers Rob?

  • Nope, but I'm not thinking of myself.

  • Either way there's no misunderstanding this:

This is not the final say We don't know how many spots we will be given so it is all hypothetical.

The main purpose is to see if people which format people would like.

We're trying to get a dialogue going about it, and i've suggested using the uk champs as we have the venue booked. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • I know, I'm just speculating as to reasons people might not be happy about it.
I still think it's a good idea to allocate the top few spots to the euros and have another chance for the rest. If a mash up team get 2nd or something and don't want to qualify with that line up then the place goes down a spot and the people from the team that finished second have a go at the separate tournament.

  • Sorry chan and max, but the straw pole has more votes for 2 qualies, which however important you may think it is, is more relevant than your posts argueing there shouldn't be a second way of qualifying.

If you want a list how about a better comparison:
People suggesting there should be 2 qualies (after a vote on it):

    1. Puncture
    2. otters
    3. Khornight
    4. Hyperalla
    5. Dubkev.
    6. N3il

    People saying there shouldn't:

    1. Chan
    2. Max.
  • Thanks, Louis for clearing that up. But I am perfectly capable of reading the results of the poll.

All I'm saying is It was a very tight vote, and no one has been forthcoming with a bid to host the Euro Qualis, so why do a separate event? If most people who want to qualify are attending the champs, then why bother with the extra hassle. Let alone the fact that this is all guff as we are still in the dark as to how many spots the UK is allocated.

Thanks for making a list highlighting peoples opinions but I would genuinely like to know who else can't make UKchamps but would like to go to the Euros.

  • I am going to the UK champs, but I would like to qualify with two people who can't make it, so that's three more people for your list.

  • It's bad enough that we'll barely have had any "national" tournaments before the UK champs. Lets not make it worse by doubling it up.

  • Louis, (considering your histrionics when I add your name to a list just for throw ins), you've misrepresented me there. I was merely pointing out the results of the poll on the thread, for people to keep that in mind. "Just saying", in fact. I dont really care one way or another if there's two or one qualifiers, I cant afford to go on a polo holiday, I didnt even vote on the poll. So Max feel free to edit my name off there.

I thought the point of having a second separate event was to avoid what happened last year - where loads of people initially said they wanted to Euro, and then dropped like flies, meaning people lower down the list got the chance to go, but other teams who might have gone (Cosmic, maybe? I cant remember) didnt have another chance to qualify because they missed the UK champs. Sorry if I have that wrong, I dont really fully remember.

Max has a good point, if nobody is willing to host another event, and right now there isnt a huge body of people that need a separate event... then the UK champs is probably enough.

Do they have names or are they TBC ? (winky)

    It's only March 7th ffs!

    Vicenza Euros June 25th-29th

May 17th-18th is 6 weeks before, this is a good amount of time to get affordable travel, assuming those intending to qualify will already have researched their options.

UK Champs April 5th-6th is 6 weeks before that.

I suggest good weekends for NS-style tourneys April 26th-2th and June 7th-8th, so you have national-spec tournaments every 3 weeks leading up to the Euros.

UK champs and Euro qualifiers as the first significant UK tourney of 2014 means it's very likely the result won't be representative of the best teams in the UK in June.

For the record I wasn't trying to suggest that the people in the top half selected two tournies in the original poll, just that they seemed to be suggesting that the vote should be followed, while max and chan were suggesting it should be ignored.

Yes the two others are very much TBC/TBA ;)

  • I know Matt and Mya wanted to try and qualify, but won't be back in the country until May.

  • Brendan requested after a certain date too?

  • Just a thought: if it's decided that it will all be done via the UK Champs, then presumably there'll need to be some system to rank the teams that came joint 5th / joint 7th?

I don't know Podium well enough to know how / if this works, but if there's likely to be a need for any extra games for ranking can you let me know?
    Ta.

  • Brendan requested after a certain date too?

yes i would like to try and qualify, but of course if the vote for a tourney is after i return then its rather moot. I'm sort of keeping my eyes peeled and expressing interest and a vote without wanting to complicate matters. Point is that if i can't make the qualifier whenever it is, i'm not going to argue about 1 v2 tournies etc.

Yep, the same for me. except I'm not in the UK again until May 1st.

  • id like a separate qualifier please

  • I would prefer a single qualification but understand that it would be unfair to do so after registration has been filled up for the UK champs.

It also does not help that Vicenza has not announced the distribution of spots.
I do think that the UK champs should be given the majority of spots though...

Assuming that the UK should get at least 7 slots (huge speculation), would people be down for 5 qualification spots determined by UKC?

The teams that came in joint 5th could have a playoff for the last spot.
This could even be scheduled in just before the final to give the team coming through the loser's bracket a rest.

  • Emmet for EHA president!

  • I'd say 2 or 3 spots for the champs.

  • kids know their spots.
