Luckily too small for me

A mate of mine gave me this today. Pretty sure it’s Max, he apparently has the original forks somewhere too.

Very lucky to have friends like that.
It does look like Max especially with those chainstays and unusual with the monostay. -

650c Max front fork. This might be a keeper.

For the max geeks, did you know that there was a version of Columbus Altec tubing with the same shape as Max?
-
• #810
There was also a 5 ton weighing Max shaped mtb-tubing (used by Colnago for their Maxim bikes). :-)

I didn't.
But no steel, no deal!

Isn't it just the MAX OR tubeset? Quite a few frame builders used that on their MTBs (Pinarello Maxim, Kona explosif etc...) I didn't know it was that much heavier.
@Scilly.Suffolk I kinda agree. I'm eyeing up a bargain on lbc atm but I'm not quite sure whether it's proper steel max or the max shaped altec. I asked the seller if he could test it with a magnet but he didn't reply yet.

Does it have cool paint? That's the most important bit
-

I have one on the attic, will strip it and tell you what the frame weight is. ;-)

If it has smooth welds like that blue one above, I wouldn’t care if it was made of papier mâché. So good

Bit too big and nowhere near as cool as the blue rainbow one sadly

Best way to see if it is steel or aluminum is to look at the dropouts. Steel dropouts are much more subtle than aluminum. Works quite well even for bad pics and pics taken from a distance.

Thanks for the tip. The dropouts indeed led me to believe it might be aluminium, they don't have cut-outs but they're not extremely chunky either. They look similar to the ones on the black altec above but also similar to the ones used on this foco steel frame:

I'd rather not, will post it in due time :) soz

@Sig_Arlecchino I can't believe it's Max OR as these are low budget Nago's. Came with Exage400.

there you go: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/megalos-columbus-altec-max-tubing-58-cm/790606986-217-1124 maybe just pm him
I spoke to Ted James about this at bespoke once, he said no because the max tubes are too soft /thin walled or something. Theres a possibility that fork might be cromoly in the shape of max, which are much stronger
