  • Paging Saarf, paging Saarf.

Managed to get this off ebay.es after a tip off for £315 plus shipping! Currently on its way over here!

Is anyone able to tell me what year this?

Is there a reason this has painted and not chromed lugs, was this typical for X-Lights?

    Sellers pictures…..

  • Bargain!

  • Nice find & a bargain ;)
Some race teams asked for masters without chrome lugs , so could be the reason ...
Look forward to seeing it built & a ride report ;)

  • Think it's a later model extra light 2000- 2002

  • the EL-OS was brilliant!

  • /\
    that's a nice , clean build

    Got to agree very nice

  • hi lads said id drop a quick one here. I'm new to forum but i thing this topic suits me down to ground. I'm 19 and have worked in bike shops/ been selling bikes now for 4 years. Colnago's always caught my eye- unlike most of my generation i really appreciate the older classics, not as far back as the mexico but more so around my birth time (master olympic era). Have owned a master, 4 dreams, a c95, 2 c50's at some point in time (not all together) and always have at least 1 in the shed. have no interest in the new stuff, basically since alex, ernesto's son took over. When they go right, they go right like no other brand. C50's still a favourite. From working all day with bikes i hate the shite talkers who talk about how some frames offer more comfort but by god do i feel comfortable on a c50 even with a superleggera saddle!

Hi there is a 2001 & 2003 catalogue on velobase
    http://www.velobase.com/resource_tools/catalogscans.aspx
You can tell by the rear dropouts & top cable routing your frame is a later model master & the master x light I believe was one of the last forms of master before they re introduced. The 30th aniversary
Also your frame has painted lugs , I have read that some teams requested painted front lugs for various reasons unknown to myself
I also have a fully painted master competition without a master logo or any chrome but I'm thinking mine is an early 90s model as it has slightly thinner Gilco tubing with the cable routed entering & exiting through the top of the top , the other master I have has internal routed rear brake cable , the cable entering underside of top tube & exiting on the top of the top tube. The Gilco tubing is also slightly larger

  • thread should be called 'Ask Saarf'

you will always be sure of irrelevant info there

  • Ariostea team decor?

nice matchy matchy jersey on the bay at the mo

  • the esa mexico period build is almost done

i think i'll keep em peeled for another crankset or arms as this is quite used

  • thread should be called 'Ask Saarf'

be great if was in a kinda "challenge anneka " context also

Really nice . The grail of Mexico's

my team buckler has overpainted lugs

and here's my old 94 with my current 96
you can see the tube gauge differences

the master pui I think can be defined also due to location of cable guide, I think near seat post
    not mine.,

master x lights last incarnation was not in gilco ,but DT15v steel

  • this appeared on retrobike the other week
a fucking unicorn Master CX, circa post '96
    http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/download/file.php?id=250431
owner is American, Lee, a nice guy, and he sourced it from this Parishes own Hillary Stone
in my one of my fantasies, i have the stay bridge replicated in silver and turned into an id bracelet
    http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/download/file.php?id=250523
frame is 49cm ish, production line master started at this size, and the tubes are un characteristically un crimped,
i wonder what the story is behind it

  • i hope to complete this team issue rabobank lux dream in the next couple of weeks

i got of a certain Gent called Bjorn Hoberman, who was in the under 23 group I think, his name is on the rabobank sticker

i have a dura ace 7700 group, which is what the team used , and i await a set of winter wheels from a donor bike this week hopefully
cheap and cheerful wheels, will do to get through till spring anyway, summer projects will cast a shadow over the build budget, so I'll wait till september to get proper decent ones

  • dream's are the dogs dangly bits to ride btw (for an alu frame)
