  • i really wanted to try the process on him, see if he got an 'orange peel' finish,6 months the cunt had it
but it's christmas with the baby jesus and that

  • my earlier question was more about sourcing all the panto period correct gruppo, then seeing it disappear to a collector..

  • i think that's pretty much it build wise mate, circa 94,the little panto campag stuff of that era that i have seen looks nasty as a rule, looks aftermarket like a certain eastern butcher does, bar the odd stem that is 'factory' done, the cxp wheels had an 8 speed hub, and the gearing is for 9, so hence wheel change
the car touch up paint arrived (vauxhall), tested a few spots, and i'll see how it looks in dayight

  • Ouch, too bad it didn't work out.. The Youtube vids looked promising.
Where in NL are you going to get it chromed? From what I hear we Duchties can't use the same process as in the old days due to specific regulations (nature, health and so on..) Our "zuiderburen" (Les Belges) can still do it ye olde fashioned way. Might be worth looking in to. Probably also cheaper than here in NL

  • Highchrome.nl in the Westerpoort of Amsterdam, I spoke to Jella Hoogstra, he said he'd done frames before, approx 350 euros

  • We can have them chromed in the old way that's true. But we have regulations as well, you know. ;-) Thing is: combination of both old school and regulation makes a rechrome (headtube and lugs and rear stays) pretty expensive. I asked price to redo a Master X Lite and (partially) rechroming frame and forks would have cost me more than 400 euro...

  • i was told i could get the whole frame and forks done

  • Hmm, the website you mention is not around anymore. Also can't find any info on them

  • maybe I got the name wrong

  • whatever, there is a co.in westpoort industrial area, got a phone quote off the name i mentioned, i had chrome lugging done in NL which turned out ok

  • this looks interesting if they can do a full frameset

  • Finished my '82/'83 Super today:

  • letting my mexico go. If keen shoot me a message :0)

  • Very very very nice build Wim. It looks spot on. I like it a lot.
I think my friend has some SR brake 'guides'. I'll ask him next time we speak for your rears.

  • Thanks @JusCos . Thanks for the offer too but no need to ask for the brake cable guides (believe that's what you mean?) because it's an eighties model with braze ons.

  • I meant the brake block housing with the guides, not sure what they're actually called.

  • Aha, those you mean. They're missing, that's correct. If your friend wants to sell me a pair for a fair price, I'm interested. Thanks!

  • Got myself some new projects for 2016.

First up is my friend's Nuovo Mexico (top left). I'm not having the whole bike as he has already stripped it and allocated the parts here there and everywhere but just the frame, headset and BB.
The donor bike (top right) should arrive early next week and is waaaaaay too big for me so the frame will be sold on but a nice Super Rec group/GP4's is going on the Nuovo Mexico.

Bottom left Saronni Super is a little tatty to say the least but is going to have a Dura Ace 74** groupset. Gonna retire my Alan CX from commuter duty and replace it with this.

Lastly a late Alan Record Carbonio that I have a C-Record groupset for with some Deltas (that I haven't seen yet but are on their way). I was tempted by a Colnago Carbon, the one that is pretty much just the same as an Alan but in the end waited for an Alan Carbonio instead and this one is in really nice condition.

  • well done, some excellent projects!
just had an alan mtb arrive yesterday
saronni won on a red nuovo mexico, be good if you could shows pics of the crimps and clear
that argument up once and for all

  • That's guaranteed some weeks of pure fun, @JusCos !

  • Alan mtb sounds like a nice addition to your collection. Now you've got the road, the cx and the mtb.
I'll be sure to post up pics of the stays. Nuovo Mexico definately has crimps as you correctly identified, the red one top right was sold and decalled as Mexico however I fear it is actually a super as I think I can make out a crimp from the low res images although I'll have it in the flesh next week to confirm.
Super frame bottom left is definately crimped, likewise my other one of similar age.
    Watch this space

  • "Nuovo Mexico definately has crimps as you correctly identified"

Just re read my last post and realised an error, it should've read "frame tube crimps"
Sorry to further add to the confusion, it's been a long day

  • i bet you can't sleep for staring at yer treasure! ;o)
