  • Not a Colnago of course and probably will land me in forum prison but nonetheless thank you @Diesel for allowing me the opportunity to own this beautiful piece of Italian engineering. I will be forever in your debt ;-)

  • @JusCos that Colnago is just euhhh Super!

  • @JusCos: that Alan looks even better than it was.. and that Super.. looks like a champ! #bikeporn

  • Can't wait to see what your fine stash of frames yields when you start putting them together too.

  • I love that Alan but I fear the Super when it's finished will be my new best friend until the next one comes along. My wife asked when this apparent obsession with bikes will stop and I told her I'll take them to the grave with me.
She is now outside digging a gigantic hole.

  • Very nice paint !

  • I the same alan and cx one, allowed here imho as they have linage to colnago, the dual and the carbitubo , super resto looks great also

    ,chapeau

  • also
looks like the master mtb in did will return to the saarfside, my mate wants to give back
got a few marks on it so knocked a third of what it cost him off

  • Yes.

  • Thanks for the nice comments. Found some time today to do a 'loose' build and of course some pictures before putting the frame away for a few weeks to ensure the paint is nice and hard before I start tightening up all of the components, clamp on parts especially so as to not squash the paint and make the indentations on it I see so often on repainted frames. I'll have to spend the next few weeks looking at it on my screensaver instead and no doubt by the time it's fully built the winter weather will be here so doubt I'll be riding it for a long while. Anybody have any experience of how long to leave the paint to cure, the painter said I can build it up after a couple of weeks but I'm not so sure that'd be long enough ??

  • my advice - remove the top tube and seat tube clamps very gently and leave the thing alone for a month

  • It's really fabulous. Where did you have it resprayed? Did you have the forks rechromed?

  • Thanks a lot. Colour-tech on the London Kent border did it for me. He paints for a few companies, used to do Witcomb and I think still does condor. He painted ed clancy's bike when the team changed sponsors. He also does painting for brick lane bikes. This is the 2nd he's done for me and I would have no hesitation in taking more.

Now those forks! Well chroming was going to take longer and cost a bit more so I went the cheats route and he chrome painted the crown. If you put it up against a precisa chrome fork for example then yes you can tell the difference but standalone it looks pretty darn good. Perhaps more so in keeping with a 40 year old bike as it appears to have a lightly aged patina, a sort of dulled look compared to real chrome. I would definately go that route again for a crown or lug but possibly on a complete fork or rear triangle not.

Incidentally he said if I wasn't happy with the outcome then he'd be happy to take the fork back, chrome it and repaint the 'legs'.

  • It looks really great. I might have my 1986 Master resprayed on mid-long term (has some skuffings on the top tube and it's already bit rusty) but I'm afraid most resprayers here don't see the importance of a good respray (there major concern is to keep the Colnago and other Pinarello companies happy by delivering on time). Can you PM the price of this piece of artwork?

  • That's gorgeous, lovely shade of white! :)

Do you have a close up of the fork crown?

  • Thanks. Sure I'll take one this evening and post it up.

  • in the meantime here's a cropped image from a picture I have already

  • Thanks, that works very well. Something to keep in mind if ever DIY painting for sure.

  • Have you still got your beautiful Saronni Red Super?
