• Hes closing/ closed - thankfully.

  • Is that still going? FBook Twitter and main website dead or not updated in months...

    ahh too slow

  • Hah, I had no idea. Sargents?

  • I've had help from the Classic Rendezvous crowd before - most seem to be aged over 70 and know their stuff.
You have to join the google group though.

  • ok, will consider. Sargents may be good yes, but Vintage Bike Cave has certainly gone. Maybe Graham will still appear at Muswell Hill Cycle Jumble and I could catch him there??
Here is a full side shot of the frame, anyway:

  • Saw the pics on Retrobike as well. This thing really does have all the right bits screwed to it. Lovely machine.

  • in addition to Classic Rendezvous already mentioned, there are
Members of the Veteran-Cycle Club are sent the member-only News and Views which often has frames/parts for identification. Need to join and pay the membership fee

Classic Lightweight's newsletter Cambridge Lightweight News has frames/parts for identification

National Cycle Museum Historical Queries service encourage contact and were thorough in trying to help me recently.

Hilary Stone 'I can also research bikes and their makers – there is a minimum charge of £20 for this.'

  • have tried the national Cycle Museum but no luck either. Looks like this frame may remain a mystery unless one pops up somewhere with that distinctive seat tube lug cut out...

  • Classic Rendezvous, V-CC and Hilary Stone still options. Just requires a little bit of work.

  • true, Have joined classic rendezvous so shall try there, and will be signing up to v-cc come pay day next week

  • classic rendezvous: just remember to read carefully the rules. Dale's 'garage' is like a group of friends, and you need to clearly identify yourself and where you live at the end of each post. The anonymity afforded with user names on forums such as this is not tolerated. Just behave like you would for a job interview, and carefully read your post before replying as there is NO edit button.
For the frame identification take high quality photos of the areas marked in the photo. Dale recently raised the issue of poorly photographed images which failed to show the key frame features. This is an image I prepared in response. So good closeups of these plus the full side shot will get the nod as you being a suitable new member. It also gives people who might know something to see and comment on.

No need for the pedal shot. But for your distinctive lugs, take multiple macro shots of those.

  • Realised there was no edit button after accidently sending an unfinished post-hopefully I will be forgiven...

  • I noticed.
I put it down to job interview nerves :)
If there is no reply I can identify some regulars who I will PM and ask for their input.

  • Also, anyone here got a period correct, preferably dome topped 27.2 seat post they want to sell me? Reynolds or something similar from the 50's...

  • safe to say you were the underbidder on this?

I bought a modern straight post and sanded then polished it. It will do until there is one that appears that I justify its price.

  • Yep., that was me that got outbid. Good lord I know they can be pricey but £50 odd seems a lot to pay. Miles over what I bid up to.

  • That's a really knowledgeable forum. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • You passed the CR test. The experts stepped up and identified your frame.
A good story, the fact you had already tried to have it identified, and good images.
So now a thank you and an indication as to what will be the future for the frame is in order.

There doesn't appear to be a V-CC Marque Enthusiast for JRJ. But I would still encourage you to join. Wonderful information in the members only publications. Plus access to organised rides I can only wish for (along with all the other overseas members).

  • oh, good, havn't seen that yet. CAn't get google group to let me log on at the moment. WIll have to log in at home where my compuetr remembers my passwords.

  • Will definitely be joining the v-cc come pay day yes. Been meaning to for a while so now seems a good time

  • Just noticed that mine and @alanelsegood 's photos are up on the CR site for A.E. Elsegood, so I though I should sign up to CR properly.

Hopefully it will also kick me into gear on rebuilding the Elsegood over the winter!

  • How a freewheel works. From Ingenious Mechanisms for Designers and Inventors, 1930, by Franklin D. Jones, p61-62.

  • Just gone through my parts bin.

Need a fair bit of the basics, Bars, Stem, Seat pin etc for the Elsegood.

Question is should I stick to its 'original original' era, when it was build - 50's or go for the Campag/British mash up from the 70's, when it was modified by the original frame builder.

either way, let the Ebay fun begin :)
