Frame number 001731, I think it should be D01731, so April 1950. Probably a Club weight.
Judging by the description the frame has had one too many.....
The components look like new, Lytaloy headset, seat post clamp, Hobbs badge, Bayliss BB and that paintwork..!
There have been some ace Hobbs frames come up recently. -

Heh hadn’t spotted that :)Not pre 1950 but a couple of decent Ephgrave too. This is an early #1 if anyone missed it / is interested https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264942045975

That's lovely. Amazing rake on the forks

Great sprints but the frame looks like it's built for those pesky 27.11/4 wheels

Did anyone on here buy the 30s Carpenter?

I'd love a Hobbs but the majority of them for sale are generally way too big for me.

Only 89 pound wtf..!
I didn't bother with it as I thought it would go for loads..
Not that it's for me. I have a friend after his first vintage bike, on a budget this would have been a good start. -

Yeah I was surprised at how little it made.

It's always the time of the year to nab a bargain in the vintage cycling world.

Eek I accidentally put a bid on a bike - like an outer body experience I saw myself get excited and click it. I've been about 51:49 hoping someone outbids me : getting excited about it for the last few days.
I'd made a promise to myself no more bikes until I'd at least finished one of the ones in progress and had sold some more stuff. Must have had my fingers crossed!

Subbed..!

anything nice?

very early if scruffy Selbach. Would bid myself but far too small, even for such an early frame.

There's nothing to see there :)

That's nice. Reminds me that I need to get my Selbach trike diff repaired.

This Gillott
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174531179061
Nervex lugs so I'd guess late 50s. It is not original paint, it does have a big ding in the top tube, a lot of non original equipment >.< On the plus side it has some nice components on it, has been well loved (or ridden at least), and a Gillott was on my list of exceptions - original paint, 1953/54 Gillot, Claud or Ephgrave was what I'd internally agreed would tempt me to test s-1 bikes.
Edit - Add Holdsworth Zephyr with road ends - I think there are some, maybe Cyclone to the list. And it's a Claud spearpoint bi-lam that would make my palms sweat.

I really like the Zephyr, this one with track ends looks a good starting point for a restoration (at the current price)

I think this refers to the Ephgrave above.
Looking a the photos, it strikes me that this is yet another frame with replacement front forks.
- The crown does not match the style of the lugs.
- The frame has a mudguard stay mounting on the seat stay, the forks have it at the fork end.
- The forks are certainly intended for 27's, the frame possibly not - it's clear that the front brake shoes are at the bottom of their slot, whereas on the back brake the shoes are set in the middle of the slot.
Since Ephgrave was one of the most highly regarded builders, it might be worth having more suitable forks made for this frame.

It's a fair point, it would be nice to see the frame numbers though to get an idea on age as the rear mudguard stay mount would suggest a much older frame. I didn't think the forks were to bad as @7ven pointed out they have a lovely rake to them.

ah, sorry!

• #2973
Don't worry, I probably shouldn't buy it but it does look rather good.

I like the look of it.
