  • I may have had a Belgian cordial…

  • I know it's early but seeing as I missed the visual treat before, does anyone know where any highlights might "end up" online?

  • www.sporza.be is always good for highlights. Otherwise, check out www.steephill.tv or www.cyclingfans.com.

  • I may have had a Belgian cordial…

10 minutes highlights of the women's race here.

  • Just had word that the elderly woman passed away after a 3h induced coma. RIP :-(

  • Sad news.

  • Feel sorry for Vansummeren, I bet he won't be getting much sleep tonight.

  • .

  • brutal. RIP lady and hope Vansummeren doesn't take it too hard, really don't think he's in any way at fault and he's lucky not to have been more badly hurt himself.

tragic end to an amazing race.

  • damn. so sad.

  • Found a video of the actual crash. Not sure she was in the road or if he just clipped her. Horrible.

Google it if you want but I don't feel comfortable putting it up here as I wish I'd not been daft enough to watch it myself.

  • That's the third or fourth time the video or a link to it have been posted in this thread today, can we just stop reposting it please?

I didn't want to watch it earlier and I don't want to watch it any more now that I know the lady concerned has died. It seems pretty disrespectful and ghoulish to post it up after it turns out she died.

Vandenbergh rode a very good race, he played the role of a loyal teammate in going with GVA and trying to neutralise him. It's a shame none of his more celebrated team mates were able to stay with Cancellara and Vanmarcke when they went.

Criticising him is unfair, he did the job that was asked of him.

    I was only teasing.

  • Awful news, no-one should go to a bike race and lose their life.

  • No-one seems to be reporting this as a fact yet

  • ^ This. Just been informed by someone that no such news has been reported in Belgium. Sorry for my rash reporting of it. Feel like a bit of cunt now. That will teach me to take tweets at face value.

  • use the audio from this youtube video (it's english but shit quality)

Ronde van Vlaanderen 2014 - FINAL 45 KILOMETERS - YouTube

and line it up with the visuals from this one (unless you're italian) (it's in HD but commentary in italian)

Tour de Flandes 6-4-2014 Cancellara - YouTube

Fucking brilliant, really great racing, last 20km are really worth watching

  • [QUOTE=bmx_fred;4172648]

and line it up with the visuals from this one (unless you're italian) (it's in HD but commentary in italian)

It's in Spanish, and all the better for it!

  • Enjoying your double YouTube setup now BmxFred!

  • Brilliant ride by G. Who had a big get down early race. Wiggins did his job and buried himself to relay G back on.

EBH up there. Nice to see.

    G is a tough moster.

  • G face planted and said it really shook him up, and pulled something in his back, but still managed top ten, so very solid. EBH should have gone with GVA at 37k, I think he had attacked just before. The two of them might have kept that break away.

Really disturbed by the Vansummeren crash, not sure the lady is dead so fingers crossed she makes it. Surely though that family shouldn't have been standing on a traffic island in the middle of a raging peloton?

  • Dutch newspaper reports that the lady is still alive but in critical condition after 2 operations.

Also: both Vansummeren and the race organisation might be prosecuted by Belgian court for unintentional GBH (loosely translated, I'm no law expert but that is what it boils down to I think)

  • ^The racing yesterday was absolutely incredible. Most exciting riding i've seen in ages.

The news about Vansummmeren and this lady is terrible though, I've only just heard about it. Am pretty amazedthere coud be some sort of prosecution of the rider for it though, surely if it's purely accidental he can't be held liable? Although, i guess it's like 'reckless driving' or something similar

  • Horrible news about Vansummeren and in that interview (even though it's in Dutch) you can tell he's really shook up. Hope the lady recovers and he gets some closure.

How exactly was he being reckless? I really don't want to watch the video of the crash.

  • It looked as if he was trying to switch lanes in front of the traffic island and misjudged it totally.
