I used to get riled up by motorist and pedestrians but I found it ruined my mind by the time I reached my destination, getting angry during a ride just made my blood boil and put me in a bad mood.
But after coming back from cycling in France, Belgium, Holland and West Germany (geographically speaking), I had forgotten how close cars and van get to cyclist here. I got wound up quite a lot in a 2 hour journey. Again though, I have use my calm inner voice not the angry shouty voice.
I'd say it all makes for a general impression of cyclists, if one black cab u-turns without indicating or seeing a cyclist then your first though is black cab drivers are all cunts this works both ways. I don't think rage is going to do the general image of cyclist any good in the long run, and it definitely doesn't do me any good in the short run either.
Wise words.
Though I doubt if we all are super nice cyclists will have a good name, I mean, it's like the dog it's always done it, even if it hasn't.

Being a keen cyclist for many years watching this talk on TED even managed to change my attitude towards cars on the roads - simply: the roads are for the people not for cars; cars cause so much death, destruction and pollution requiring so much control to protect other road users damn right they should pay tax!
http://www.ted.com/talks/david_carson_on_design.html
But hey, what about a new fresh movement to promote a safer street for everyone. And what if this movement was just simply a logo - anyone seeing the logo starting to appear would eventually find thier way to a site promoting safer streets.
And how about car tax renewals showing the number of people killed by cars, the amount of money spent on traffic calming and control, the amount of money spent on tackling pollution etc - might be hard to disagree with vehicle tax, or at least the need for it over other forms of transport.
Failing that the last guy that got out of his van to shout at me eventually got told to fuck off and get back in his van - it worked well although I'm not sure it really promoted our cause very well.

Start carrying a microphone and every time you get in a jam, take it out, jam it into their face and politely ask them "I know it's difficult, but how do you feel about having the mental capacity of a teaspoon?"

True that Gebraffe, but unfortunately unless public transport improves I need a tin on 4 wheels to get my son to school and back. I don't however feel I own the road just because...that's not how it works.
It would be nice however if people would feel a bit less privileged/I own the road COS I have a car. For everybody including other drivers... ;)

I told a woman in her early 40s that her poor grasp of the highway code was understandable as internal combustion engines probably hadn't been invented by her formative years.
it wasn't clever but i had pegged her right as the kind of person who yearned for her lost youth, pretty but heavily made up, expensive jewellery, and at least a couple of botox visits.
as the comment hit I saw sadness in her eyes.At the time I felt satisfied given that she's cut me up, but now I feel pretty guilty for bringing a little more sadness into the world. Sorry anonymous lady.

Not to worry... She's probably still sitting pulled over at the roadside trying to work out what the hell you were talking about.

she's probably killed herself. Feel bad.
And i prefer to threaten to rape them.

Oh, that's fucking lovely, that is.

To which I hope that they report you to the police and have you charged and acquire a criminal record for the fact.
And that such behaviour isn't acceptable in the real world, doesn't suddenly make it acceptable on a forum.
You are very new here, and I'll give a little on this one... if you edit your post and avoid such dumb statements in future you'll also avoid being banned.

"If other traffic is getting you this angry, I think you've picked the wrong career" - Me to a Taxi driver this evening.
If fairness he responded with, "Shut up and enjoy your little bike ride" which seems quite amusing now. -

No threat of rape? You're doing it all wrong, apparently.

I had a discussion with a cab driver the other day whilst coming home from work.
He had a fare in the back, which made his screaming/swearing/swerving more interesting.
I actually feel fine about the whole thing simply because he was lying- in front of the bemused looking fare he accused me of undertaking him, when he had come up behind me and then pulled into me during a failed overtake.
That he had to invent a situation that was a fantasy showed, to me, that he must at some level know that he was wrong.
And also a bit of a wally.
Haha belm did you call him a Benny too?
