  • Proof is in the pudding I guess. If you ride your next 25mi TT around 380W they're onto a winner.

  • I tried using the Workout Creator to create a 2x20 and it worked but there doesn't seem to be any way to skip into the workout, which means the ramped warmup I didn't need had to be ridden, then fucking around trying to skip the warmup it crashed out, so I went back to doing it manually and then my legs went "get fucked" after about 5min and I watched Gravity instead. #csb

Fucking legs. I know they're fatigued but I fucking hate not making my power when I want to. Now I gotta go again tonight. Bastards.

  • Did the Denali workout this morning using my new FTP figure and completed it ok. I'll see how I cope on some of the harder sessions

  • What device are you using it on and can you skip bits on 'official' workouts?
I've just checked and on the Mac desktop app you can skip parts of the workout by just clicking on the main graph bit. Only works when paused though.

  • Any advice on how to select which training plans to work through?

I'm nearly finished 'Sweet Spot Base Low Volume I', which has been met with little conflict from my existing commitments, so 3 rides a week and ~3.5hrs is perfect. Is it logical to just go onto 'Low Volume II'? And then work through the low volume 'Build' phases?

My objectives are pretty basic, now that I've nearly reached target weight of 63.5kg - raise w/kg to 4.0 by end of the year (currently 3.3)

  • I see. I probably didn't pause it first. I'll have another look tonight.

    Thanks.

  • That’s what I did last year. Got me watts.

  • Oh, I thought the aim was to complete a Base phase and then move onto the Build.
So you're saying I really should be completing all the volumes then?

  • From what I understand, you should ideally do both base blocks, then one build and one speciality.

In general they say the longer you spend on base the better. Your fitness gains will last longer as you have a better ‘base’.

  • To clarify, I'm only going to stick to the low volume given other commitments, but looking at the plans available, my planned progression through the plans is:

Sweet Spot Base Low Volume I
Sweet Spot Base Low Volume II

    Short Power Build Low Volume
    General Build Low Volume
    Sustained Power Build Low Volume

I might then just repeat some of the build plans, or try out a 'specialty phase':

    Rolling Road Race Low Volume
    Climbing Road Race Low Volume
    Criterium Low Volume
    40K TT Low Volume
    Century Low Volume

Generally both base, one build, one speciality

  • Oh yeah, I misread.

I did two base, one build one specialty.

  • That's useful.

If you don’t have another race on the horizon, we’d still recommend
using any of the training phases, Base, Build, or Specialty to focus
on a different aspect of your riding.

I think I might do the two sweet spot base, then the general build before the rolling road specialty. Then when that's done go back to the sweet spot base again and do short power build before crit specialty, or something like that. I suppose that, as you have an FTP test at the start of each of the blocks, and the subsequent sessions are based on that, you're pretty guaranteed to be doing progressive work.

  • Yeah, that sounds right. I listen to the podcast quite a bit and the general thing is that training load/intensity increases over the plan, along with built in rest weeks and re-testing of ftp etc. It's this steady increase that promotes adaptation.

And yes, 'going back to base' is not a bad thing as you are probably doing it with a higher ftp.

  • Sounds sensible, will do the 2nd volume of Base then :)

  • Anyone using Elite Direto? I had an issue when starting this training phase whereby, during the FTP test, the spike in watts seemed to have no ceiling.

I suspect it relates to the trainer not automatically switching from ERG mode to slope/resistance mode, as it says it should do in this article: https://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/201869584-Testing-on-an-ERG-Trainer

I'm a bit reluctant to prepare for my next FTP test only for the same thing to happen again. Anyone had any similar issues with the Direto? I think I'll probably just put it into resistance mode ahead of the FTP test and adjust the intensity accordingly.

  • FWIW I did the Ramp Test X and came out 18w lower than my previous 2x8 minute assessment. I feel like I could have kept on it a little bit more but not much.

I have thought that my previous FTP was a touch high. Might do another Ramp in a week.

  • Having all sorts of problems accessing the site/updating career in app across devices. Has it been haxorzed?

  • I had some issues last week. The application just wouldn't open on my mac all of a sudden. Support had me delete some supporting files from the attic which fixed the issue.

  • Tweet has been deleted. What did it say?

  • Site-wide unplanned downtime. Yesterday’s ride has since uploaded and I’ve had no problems with today’s.

  • I can still view the tweet...
