Can you put a plan into a training calendar/similar?
-
• #306
Not automatically. I guess you'd need to use google calendar or something instead but tbh it's not that hard to remember "every other day I need to go to Trainerroad". Especially as you'll be looking forward to it so much, yes?

Bof

I'm stuck using the fixed on the turbo again. Its rubbish for sprints as (A) I can fold the flexi bastard chainstays in 2, and (B) at the end of a big effort it keeps going (honestly you cant free Wheel on this thing. Mental).
So I'm sticking to workouts requiring less sudden changes.
The current plan is 2 x 20. But I hate it.

Those up under Things, or any thing that looks easy. But uses near FTP Level for recovery. Is in fact brutal. You quickly arrive at a state where the hard efforts feel easier mentally. Because you kinda expect them to hurt. But the 'under' intervals feel like torture. Because mentally Your thinking 'this is recovery?'.

You mean over and unders? They are indeed horrible, I think they're the hardest / 'best' workout on TR.
Totally know what you mean about the unders, you expect it to be the end of the suffering, but it's only a diluted form of it.

Seems worse fixed.
On the road bike I'd shift down a little extra and spin out the legs.
On the fixed I just slow cadence so the Lactic can really bed in.I tend to do it near the end of a pretty tough sufferfest vid. Might be angels.

You might as well use trainerroad to work on ( what you consider to be ) your weakness.
I'm going to work on my sprints this Winter: something that I've always been rubbish at :-/

Not got a fixed/freewheel option hub then? My turbobiekā¢ is the only bike I own with multiple gears now.

I could get freewheel. But meh.
I was reaching the top of croix de fer (virtually). Increased my effort to say 450w for that last few minutes. Nothing epic. And could see my BB shell moving several mm from side to side.
If I sprint on it. It'll feck ing fold.
Which admittedly would be a cool way to kill a bike.
But I need it to get to work.

Sufferfest - revolver.
Sprint heaven. Theres violator too. But that's insane. My whole workroom floor is flexing towards the end of that. Nearly cost me my lap top.

If you have trainerroad then just find and start the workout. You only pay for the vid. I like the tongue in cheek humor of them. But the Music can be a bit lame for my tastes.

All this talk of breaking out the turbo's/TR has had me hot under the collar, so this evening I converted the spare room back into a training cave for the winter and tested the turbo/TR in preparation for training to recommence this weekend. I anticipate my enthusiasm will last approximately 4 minutes into the first session.

I've prepared a range of excuses already. Tonights was that the train was delayed, and it was late by the time I got home.
It's not very good, as excuses go.

I did an initial ftp test last night... It was pretty pathetic.
-
• #320
The good thing about pathetic numbers is that there's plenty of room for improvement (my last ride gave me an FTP estimate of 1.7W/kg which is below untrained on Coggan's charts. I've seen the lofty heights of 2.39W/kg before; almost busting through 'untrained' into Cat 5).
(OK, so these were figures taken from a longer ride and not a specific testing protocol, but I don't have a turbo and I've no interest in trying to maintain x Watts for any period of time out on the road.)

2x20 fixed ~ 75-80 rpm is great. I like the monotony, claustrophobia, heat, Chinese water torture clock-watching plus the slow, progressive onset of carbon dioxide in the blood.

I just bought these 3 things, specifically for my turbobiekā¢
Does that make me the weirdest yet?
-
• #323
Well yeah there is that. I've also been pretty lazy this year with minimal club riding, especially since our summer TT series finished.
Think I scrape in near the bottom of cat 5. -

Planning on doing an FTP test this evening - but using this with my Power2max: http://veloreality.com/products/trainer-software/ instead of trainerroad.
Only really want it so I can have numbers on a big screen and possibly a graph...

If you're not using an ironing board, you're not doing it right.
That was it's "can I see all the sensors" position, I then introduced a bleeding-edge-tech laptop stand (AKA, ironing board), just to the right of the bike.
