Anyone got a recommendation for a front rack?
I got the basil memories but it's not going to work without some serious bodging.

Honestly, the Soma one win hand-down due to it's low-rider mount that's a great addition to have panniers as well as a flat rack.
Height adjustable with an option of a mount for those without rack mount.
Very expensive but the price reflect that.

hmm yeah pretty pricey.
The Basil needs the back chopping down, some different handlebars, and some of these and it should work. Bit of an effort.

There's a cheaper one goes by Minoura Gamoh, I used to have one, while they have a bit of flex, they're defintely better than the Basil for the type of bike you're riding.
edit - just notice the price gone up, they were usually £35-45 before.

I had the soma rack. Pretty awesome, I found mine in Velorution for 70 gbp. Long time ago though. It is pretty sturdy, and will last way longer than a basil.

I've got the soma one in black, really please with it, dead easy to pop on and off the bike when not required too.

Soma one looks great. It's a bit pricey. I'll have to bodge the basil for now and maybe get one of them when I'm a bit more flush.

Ride with the Basil one for now, if you're liking the idea of a front rack but want a lighter one with lowrider, you know where to go.

cool thanks guys.
I think for the sake of my credit card bill I will bodge the basil for now and look at getting a Soma/TCB in the future.

Can't wait to see the finished bike.
Lots of good information for me too as i'm starting to build a pompino for my self :) -

Got a frame sorted?
-
• #169
Yeah went for the medium in the end, had a look at the geo and it will fit me fine, probaby a bit better than the large actually. It should arrive today, just need to get the wheels built and wait on the cranks and I can get this built.
EDIT:
Speak of the devil and he shall appear..

u got all the tools you need n stuff?
-
• #171
Yeah, got all the tools I think.
The only thing I dont have is a headset press but my mate has one and he's gonna teach me how to do that, and set up the disc brake. They are the only things I havent done before.
On the rack front, Keep Pedalling have a Soma Porteur in Stainless Steel so i'm gonna pop in and check it out this week. I would have preferred black but they are out of stock everywhere.

Chase and face the BB tool?
-
• #173
never bothered when I fitted them on the vig, all seemed okay.
If that needs doing though I'll just get it done at Harry Halls when I drop the wheels off.
-
• #174
General advice with external BB's is that you have it properly chased/faced/installed.
When you're spending omnium money on cranks, it seems like a false economy to skimp on the installation.

Wax though...
