  • 44 or 42cm?

  • 440mm according to the order confirmation email from HubJub.

  • Poo, little on the wide side for me.

  • They definitely don't feel like 44's, I seem to recall that they come up a bit narrower than the nominal size.

Mind you I might be imagining things.

  • 42cm c-c at the hoods, and 44.5cm c-c at the tip of the drops according to my tape measure.

  • I was aware of that, and yes they're narrower on the hood, prefer a 42cm drop than 44cm.

  • Another alternative would've been Deda 215s.
Apparently they were popular with pro teams in the 90's, and seeeem to be the only 26.0 flat transition bar with race pedigree still in production (although i'm happy to be corrected on that one).

That white / red Zanconato with the 80th anniversary SR groupset has them.

  • This one?

  • My nittos finally arrived, they're so nice! Love how the tops are flattened leading up to where the hoods mount. Think they're worth the ridiculous money for the quality...

  • I agree. That shaping can make them a pain to get in a quill stem though.

  • This build is fucking ace, haven't seen shimano look so good on a classic frame.

  • Dammit, I have the 215 in black, and 26mm clamp, 44cm too.

  • This one?

Sorry, forgot there's more than one option for 215s.. those are “shallow“, I meant “Anatomic“. Would post a pic, but i'm on my mobile... There's a pic in my Matching Roberts cp thread.

  • Aha:

  • That's the jobbers... I haven't ridden them yet, but it is possible to get a flat transition without it being too steep in drops:

  • By steep i mainly mean the angle of the last bit, rather than the distance of the drop itself.
Also, i thought they'd be better than the Somas for my small hands to reach the brakes from the drops.

  • The Nitto's arrive tomorrow, I'll see what they look like.

  • If for some reason you're not a fan, ill take them off your hands, looking to sort a longer distance set-up on the Mercian super vig

  • I'll bear you in mind.

    These are the bars:

  • This is the Noodle/177:

  • Just for the benefit of anyone reading this for info about flat-transition bars, the diagrams from that website are slightly misleading in that they show the end of the drops as horizontal but the levers as vertical.
The whole cockpit should be twisted up a bit to get them flatter.

Aside from that, I'm curious to see how easily the new Nittos go into a quill stem. Looks like the tubing squares off on the tops? Hard to tell from the photo.

  • ^ this, it's a bit of an odd levers placement as well as the campagnolo manual strictly said that the hood should be 100% flat.

The tubing is flatten a bit, but doesn't make it harder to install the stem, the hardest one was the Bontrager if I remember correctly.

  • Issue with the Noodle, which you can see upthread, is that you could rotate the bars up and move the levers to get a flat transition, but that put the flat of the drop in a silly place, and the levers were not really in a good place anymore either- plus the reach started getting really, really long.

Basically, it is not what the bar is designed for, hence ordering the M106.

I would prefer to keep the Noodle's- I bought them on aesthetic grounds, and I think they suit the '98 frame better, but this is a bike to be ridden rather than admired (hence 6800), so compact drops it is.

  • Deda 215 great bars

  • Is that ultegra 11sp?
