Also, since my BHS hub failed to be laced Fitzrovia cycles miraculously had Novatech in stock which was laced instead! Thom said he can get hold of them if you want. The price was similar to Bdop (£67).

Good question, I've not really thought about it that much, I guess a large part of it might be that companies like Cannondale, Serotta etc were the movers and shakers in the mid nineties when I was young and impressionable.

I agree with your comments on early /mid nineties Cannondales, although they are now a harsh ride they are still light fast and stiff with secure and responsive handling to match anything new I have ridden. Never seen a Serotta in the metal let alone ridden one but if they are similar in pedigree then I would expect great things.

I've paid it- thanks for the kind offers chaps but they have to send the frame-tube to a frame builder, they won't send it to a "civilian", so any shenanigans are out.

I know you've got the work + paint as well, but sub£150 really isn't bad in the scheme of things for such a niche tube. Obviously the shipping makes it suck a bit, but its still great that you've got a replacment tube and they're not making you send the whole frame to them.
