  • I'd consider the cx 9's as they're an upgrade as well as a weight saving

  • yes, mini-v's are still on the cards, and smaller tyres for summer are a potential swap for a while, but nothing major

  • When i'm actually riding it I have no desires to change anything

Isn't that always the case? the longer you're off your bike, the more you ponder on what to change/new bike, but the second you jump on it and ride, you forget how great the bike is.

Did the same, although there's never a day that I haven't ridden my bike which helped.

  • I'm the opposite. When I'm on the (normally mountain) bike, I keep thinking how much better it'd ride if I did this or that. Get home and can't be bothered.

  • Snagged some CX9's on ebay for £30, score!

  • Dibs if you decide you don't like them for any reason...

    lol.! im the same

  • I fitted CX9's 2 weeks ago and feeling really meh about them. The stopping power is better and theres no squeeling, but they feel awful at the lever.

After some research its been suggested that they're meant for the pull of Shimano levers and the 8.4's are better suited to SRAM levers like mine. So the question is, do I get some better cantis or get the 8.4s?

  • Running cx9s and sram s500s on my day one, took a bit of faffing and patience but feel absolutely awesome, power is excellent and a nice positive action at the lever.

  • what was the faffing with?

  • just buy my bike rogan ; )

  • or not

  • Trade out Talbot for Taiwan... Seems legit.

  • not trade; another biek :P and china not taiwan

  • Did you put compressionless housing on Rogan?

  • The faffing was with pad angle, and making sure all the cables were as smooth as possible, had to clean the cut ends of the rear cable outer a couple of times before it pulled smoothly. Very happy with set up now.

  • What scoble said; I use these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-performance-brake-cable-set/

Cheap and quality; black inner cables is a bonus!

  • My 8.4's are great, but a big spongy. Would't go back to cantis though.

  • Not yet scoble/amey

Guess i'll get it done somewhere professionally redoing the pads etc. Any recommendations for somewhere North/east

  • You can do it yourself, just ensure a tidy radius when cutting the housing length, ensure both end are cut smoothly (dremel if necessary), push cable in both end and wiggle it to widen the plastic internal coat, then run cable through to ensure there's no friction whatsoever.

When done, install cable on bike making sure both end cap is pressed in frimly, lubicated the cable a tiny bits with chain oil.

When attaching cable, tighten bolt and really give the levers a very hard squeeze to ensure the housing is properly compressed (even with compressionless, it's worth doing).

Jagwire also do compressionless for like £35 including shift and brake cable/housing.

  • So how are the Mini V's performing?

  • perform great, feel sucky.

  • I have Avid Shorty Ultimate on my cross bike and they are great. Stopping power is good (with right adjustment and good pads) and the feel is much better than mini vs.

  • Compressionless yet?
