  • Hey ladies! I sit here in my owl pyjamas (working from home FTW) with some good news for you all! You know how owls are awesome and majestic and basically totally amazing? Of course you do, you came on the owl ride! Or maybe you just heard about it. Or maybe you just REALLY love owls...

Well, now's your chance to get up close and personal with the owls!

    Amazon Local owl bargain extraordinaire

Yes, that's right. TOUCH ALL THE OWLS!

    Important infos:

    1. It's this sunday, 17/11/2013
    2. We're meeting at Kings Cross station at 8.40am, outside Leon on the main concourse.
    3. We're taking the train from Kings Cross to Hatfield at 9.06, which takes 21 minutes. We'll groupsave it.
    4. We then have a 30 mile ride to the English School of Falconry. http:// ridewithgps.com/routes/3662940
    5. You'll need your voucher! Don't forget to print it out and bring it along.
    6. The owl touching starts at 1pm.
    7. Once we're done with owl touching there are trains back to London from Biggleswade. Or I might go to my parents house for tea (25 miles north), all welcome.
    8. Please bring snacks (we'll figure out a lunch option en route), water, lights, spares, tools, waterproof jacket, spare socks. I imagine owl touching will be a bit chilly as we'll be standing about in the cold so probably better to bring extra layers for the afternoon.
    9. Weather forecast is grey and cold, bring layers!
    10. Don't forget your camera!

    Get involved!

    4. <mands bought a second ticket for any takers?
  • I would love to touch all the owls.

  • TOUCH ALL THE OWLS!

    :D

  • Just checking with my friend how she feels about owls.

  • Great. She loves owls, so we're in, date pending.
Any ballpark date at all? (Just to make sure we're actually likely to be around to participate this time)

  • The voucher is subject to availability but is valid until March, so anytime really. I was thinking the latter half of September or October.

    1. hats
    2. T4
    3. mands
    4. cazakstan (mands can I buy your other voucher?!)
  • once again, sold to the pretty blonde... ;)

  • Blushes Haha!

  • I WANT TO TOUCH OWLS!
    Stupid arm ¬_¬

  • ^ You could always get the train up. Not as nice but at least you get some owl-touching in.

  • I've been to that birds of prey centre and done the owl experience - it's amazing, they've got a lovely collection of birds, vast majority seem to genuinely be rescue/captivity birds so you don't feel bad and the setting is real nice. DEFINITELY worth calling up in advance and arranging a trip based around when they have young birds fledging because a) they're super fucking cute and b) can be handled much easier (and without the stress/negative impact on the birds) than adult birds which is what you really want, isn't it? Been twice with my girlfriend and first time there were no younguns but second time round we got to hold, stroke and basically coo over a baby kestrel and a baby red faced scops owl. That's the goodness right there.

So, uh, yeah, enjoy the owls.

  • ooo maaai gooood.. Pleeease let there be babies there when we go!!

  • Depending on the date, I might just ride my bike anyway... (if I'm not somewhere in SE Asia)

    Shhh. Don't tell teh dr.....

  • Interested, particularly since I missed the owl ride.

  • 9 days remaining to buy the voucher, it's:

    • £18 (regular price £78) for a half-day owl and eagle experience for one person
    • £30 (regular price £156) for a half-day owl and eagle experience for two people
    • Opportunity to handle or observe American bald eagles, barn owls, golden eagles, tawny owls, African fish eagles, great grey owls and more (ie TOUCH ALL THE OWLS)
    • Includes a cup of tea and a piece of cake

If that last bit of information doesn't sway you then I don't know what will...

  • I hope that they have little owls too. Little owls are ace!

  • Look at the eyes, love them!

  • I hope that they have little owls two. Little owls are ace!

    I think you're in luck...

Thereafter the morning will be spent handling various types of Owls. This will include some indigenous species, ie the Little Owl, Barn Owl, Long Eared Owl, Short Eared Owl, Tawny Owl and the Snowy Owl, together with Owls from around the World. You will have the opportunity to fly the birds yourself under careful supervision.

  • Eeeeeeeeeeee! Can't wait!!

  • Oh I really want to go but Sept/Oct is super busy for me and I'm worried I'll buy a voucher and then not be able to go... hmmm.

  • I met a tawny owl this weekend and its handler said being stroked isn't good for owl feathers, generally, as your hands mess with their feather oil :( I do think this was some kind of trained stunt/performance owl though.

  • I have bought tickets to man-handle some owls. Looking forward to it, hope we can find a date where we can all make it!
