Is that not a push press?
-
• #2053
I'm not watching that.
Are they selling a stripped down office chair as an exercise tool?

Hmmm, I see what you mean.
I'm just going by what my coach taught me, when we were going through Stronglifts. Perhaps she intends me to move onto the strict press later?

My friend suggested the push press - it gets the weight up but is different and I will struggle with SL OHP for the meantime.
Glutton for punishment!!
Thanks

S0 at 1:43 in this video he says "... with the toes turned out..".
I've been playing around with foot stance, and found that a slight V shape improves .... something in the lift itself. But at the same time I feel that something iffy happens in my knees when my thighs are not parallel. Seems I am looking for a goldilocks position of sorts. Can someone help me dial in this in? -

Is this squatting?

If it is squatting- definitive guide

Foot angle is covered.
As, as per my usual rant, check out Mark Rippetoe’s book - Starting Strength.

Back in this morning. I'd done a decent turbo last night so thankfully easy session. Higher reps of lighter deadlifts, squats, cleans, presses. Knee ups, leg ups and chin ups in between. My chinups were a surprise. Given my rather long goatee I was doing bonus distance much more easily than I used to. Wanker Forearms™ ftw!

Lots of good glute exercises in there. Mine don't fire great (sitting most of the day...) and clams etc. help.
Good working glutes is better squats etc and fewer injuries :)
Also good for an attractive backside. If vanity is why you are here :p

Nudged the deadlifts up to 110kg yesterday. Did low reps but it felt good and kept form in check.
Definitely feels like there’s more at stake with that weight, though; a fluke bad-form lift at 60kg isn’t much of an issue but it feels like you could hurt yourself at 100+.

DOMS from yesterday did not help get through my 2x20s. Urgh. If I was a puker, that would've been messy.

On a connected topic, which I suspect has been covered before, does anyone listen to music whilst lifting?
I’m 50 and an aging punk or old punk perhaps. I’m struggling to find music to listen to. Any suggestions are welcome.
I have tried punk, The Jam, 80s rock stuff - Whitesnake, AC/DC etc, Pearl Jam, The Doors - tonight I’m trying New Order. None are ‘right’ for lifting - to me. Newest stuff I’ve tried are the Foo Fighters who sorta worked.
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks all

Depends on the mood... usually no music but the weight room where I climb has a decent sound system which is nice when you’re in the mood.

Tonight was Capdown - Civil Disobedients, but normally a metal play list on shuffle or if I'm feeling moody some black metal. Winterfylleth is a fav atm.

Thanks for the suggestions- all new to me except Rammstein who I have heard a little of.
Any more age-specific stuff to an old man?

Thanks - again. I have Metallica earlier stuff. Might try it.
Any appropriate 60s, 70s, 80s or early 90s suggestions? I am old and resistant to change 😀 I very rarely listen to anything more modern.

I dunno, do you need music to lift to?
In case any of you are still worried about how deep to squat since last weeks heated debate there's now a solid solution.
