  • Good thread Mr Suffolk,
Do you have any idea where I can buy "bar clamps" for Veloce brifters?
(Thats the rings that attach the brifter to your bars)

  • Do you think that the resin would be tough enough or do you mean just printing a mould then casting some alloy ones?

  • Just the bands, or do you need the fixings too?

I imagine that any band will do (try SJS), but knowing Campag the screws will be specific.

Which Ergo do you have? I'll check my spare parts catalogues if you can narrow it down.

  • drop me a line if one of you guys need 9 speed internals + veloce lever blades.
I just gutted a pair for the hoods and clamps.
would rather see the rest saving someone in despair than rattling around in my spares box.

  • I have a catalogue with almost every single campafnolo spare listed. Any good shop though should be able to get them. Best go to shops for this rather than on line.

  • Any good shop though should be able to get them.

Unless someone has a secret stash of 8v spring mount rings gathering dust they won't, which is what is needed here.

  • Seriously considering 3d printing a mould and knocking some out if I can find a suitably hard material to cast them in...

  • Definitely worth looking into: still a lot of love for 8v and it seems a crying shame that such a small part could render the Ergo U/S.

Might be worth having a word with @zootsuit and @Vergo unless you have your own secret laboratory...

PS Not sure how often Vergo is on here: contact deets here. I was in touch with him about some headtube badges and he's very helpful and can print in metal.

  • I'd be up for giving printing a go, has anyone got a photo and approximate dimensions of the parts in question ?

  • I can send you one.

  • Cheers Scilly , a photo in the first instance would be really helpful to see the level of detail - that would determine the material, type of printing etc.

  • Any good?

PS If you're not familiar, the pits on the inside of the ring (one on each side from the springs, pics 2 & 3) are the problem.

  • yeah probably doable, would have to check prices to see if its economically viable though.

I think any kind of plastic would pit / wear too quickly, do all models including the low end use metal?

  • do all models including the low end use metal

AFAIK yes: I'll check my catalogues and confirm.

  • Yes. Same spare part used throughout the range: EC-RE011.

  • cheers, I'll try and get some approximate prices - the issue with 3d printing metal is that it has a rough grainy surface so I'm not sure if this will cause the same issue as the pitting. It can be hand polished but increases the price considerably. Printed titanium is also an option which can be polished smooth but again the price is likely to be high!

Ill get rough price and let you know , if anyone wants to give it a go, then if Scilly is happy to post me one I can draw it up more accurately

The other option is to find a local metal machinist and see if they can just knock some out by CNC?

  • OK just got a rough estimate for steel 3D printed and coming out about £8.50 per unit. Not sure how this compares to importing proper Campag parts from the US as previously sugested?

I think the surface will be to rough to avoid the pitting issue. Ronan has smooth head badges but I think he must get these polished flat, might be worth speaking to him about it. Polishing precision parts can cause problems if too much material is removed

  • the issue with 3d printing metal is that it has a rough grainy surface so I'm not sure if this will cause the same issue as the pitting

The pits are caused by wear from the spring impacting the ring as the ratchet clicks around. This is as opposed to anything moving around the surface of the ring, so I can't see that it needs to be particularly smooth.

And yes I'm happy to let you have the ring.

  • well have a look at some of my 3d printed stuff - this is the kind of surface finish you will get,
( not shameless self promotion, just an accurate photo! ;) ) If you think its worth a shot i'll pm you my address!

  • Opportunity for someone with a laser scanner and 3D printer to start knocking these fiddly little parts out..

dayam, my prophesying powers are increasing :D

  • I've access to stuff through my course but sounds like @zootsuit has better experience. I'd definitely be interested in taking a couple though.

  • uber_gruber - Ive now got a 3D printed protoype of a right hand 8 speed ring. I need someone to test it fits correctly in the shifter (its only plastic so not sure if its strong enough for prolonged use) Are you interested in trying it in your shifter? cheers

  • This thread is so RAD.

Parts not available for cool old stuff.

Make parts for cool old stuff using cool new stuff.

  • yeah sure! i'm super busy till the 19th with exams so probably won't get a chance to fit it until then though if you're looking for a quick answer?
