  • it wont be, MTN 94 is pretty good for painting frames to be honest.

Well there we go, I stand corrected.
In which case it's a total bargain - 4/5 neon colours available at a fiver a can. A frame and fork would take about 5 cans of primer (2) and paint (3) I'd think

  • Met up with the design agency I've employed to create the graphics for the bike, yesterday evening.

They walked me through the evolution of the chosen design and Im very happy with it.

I'm hoping I should have something from them in a week or so.

I've got to say that you've made a good choice picking DDMH, I've seen their other work and its very strong.

  • I think this one is a XHD solo project?

  • So going to be putting this together tomorrow.

Going to pick up a King cage from Kinoko mid-week as well and get a Thomson stem off Robadob as well.

I want to pick up some tan wall cyclocross specific tyres, what are my options?

  • Challenge are probably your best bet, being both readily available and affordable.

Their Grifo and Fango tyres are suitable for most conditions, I don't think Challenge even know the difference between them, from dry to wet. They'll struggle in really gloopy mud but that's true of most clinchers and if you are riding in thick mud regularly then it's best to invest in a proper mud tyre, like the Challenge Limus.

  • Cheers Andy.

Failed to fit the brakes over the weekend.
Will do that tomorrow - then hopefully ride it home.

  • External BB, y u so ezy?

It's lulling you in to a false sense of security before ruining itself because you neglected to face the bb shell.

  • What do you mean?

  • External BBs rely on the outside of the shell for correct bearing alignment, so facing is crucial.

That said, I've never bothered with facing and it's been fine. Thus far. I guess it helps that I have a few bikes and never ride any of them as much as I'd like.

  • But I didn't think you had to face it every time you fitted a bb?

  • No, I don't think so. But as I understand it, paint on the 'end' of the shell is enough to put the bearing alignment out. It would depend on how you masked it while painting.

I think it's generally accepted that after most re-painting of frames you need to gently re-face the headtube (if you have a non-integrated headset), and the bb shell (if you have an external bb), as well as chase all the threads. Again, depends on masking.

  • Oh bollocks.

I'll have to get it faced then.

    face palm meme

  • I didn't face the headtube on my pomp. And new the headset creaks like anything. At least, I think it's the headset.

I also didn't face the bb shell and I am running the crappy on-one bottom bracket. It is fine thus far.

The key thing to know is the worst that can happen is the bearings will wear out a fair bit faster than you'd expect. If you've a cheaper bb and you want to get riding in the meantime I don't see how it could hurt.

  • I didn't remove the headset so that should be fine.

I have a friend who can face the bb for me - which I should've just done once I'd finished painting, just a bit lazy/impatient!

Need to order the Fango's as well.

  • If its been faced before you could sand the paint / lacquer off?

  • I've just ordered one of these. Should be here on Monday.
Means that I have to wait another week or so to ride it.

Just received the invoice for decals, so will get those put on as well.

  • Why not fixed + front brake until then?

Or front brake and wear skate shoes for rear shoe braking.

That looks like it's fitted wrong, should be in the middle where the gap in the clamp/frame is.

  • Yup - I think you are supposed to fit in the middle.
Mainly wanted a photo demonstrating the product nicely.

Hugo, I'll just go out for a ride on the road bike tomorrow instead, no biggie I can wait till next weekend...JUST

  • Riding this home tonight.

    :D

  • take some pictures yo.

  • Have to wait for a few more bits to arrive before I take pics.
