Meeting 915? What's the eta? May need to be back in London by 5
Yup, ETA really depends on how many pubs TM begs us to stop at :P
In all seriousness as I've not done the route before I'm not sure but I wouldn't expect to be back in time to be somewhere else by 5.

Was never in but I'm out! Not gonna be able to break away from work to make it.

You'll be missed mate, hopefully see you on the next one!

May still be in, will see how the finances are looking later in the week. I might get the train up early saturday morning and head back from the same day, anyone know how much the train from Cambridge back to central would cost?
-
• #383
Apollo has said £6 on groupsave.
-
• #384
dont hold me to that.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't gutted but I'm a slave to the food this time.

Yo dudes, I'll ask again, since nobody clarified when I posted last week...
How radical are you about the HHSB definition, are gears on a lo pro allowed, are they bad hills to cambridge (easier GI at the moment in my bike is 52X17...)
Is there a limited number of riders (with regards to trains back to london...)
Answer me bloody hipsters!With Love

Loic, Les is plenty rad, the ride to Cambridge is rolling/flat... Should be perfect for a ride out on the HHSTTLPB...
As for trains back, whenever we've ridden to Brighton we have stacked bikes on the trains on the return journey, hopefully won't encounter any arsey rail staff and all will be well.

Thanks dude!

• #389
No worries man, these rides are about getting together, riding (silly) bikes and having fun.
I just hope you're comfy enough on Les over the distance.
Will be good to meet you.

What TM said. The ride is pretty mellow. I would say 48x17 would be perfect. The trains back to London are frequent - be sure to try and get a direct to Kings X which is only 45 mins. The fare without any discount for a single is £22. The service is good - big trains, mostly full of chinese tourists wanting to see where the new prince comes from :) so you shouldn't have trouble with bikes - you might just need to split up a bit into a couple of carriages. When you get here, there's obviously the maypole pub. The brewhouse is also a new addition since last year...not far from the maypole and has an awesome beer selection - some made on site. I'm already on a ride that morning but will come meet for beers if you're gonna hang out in town for a bit.

Mainly what I was wondering really (I know people would not tell me to fuck off because I ride gears at a forum ride!)... never took such a silly bike on a long ride... First ride on Les with Reeen was slightly painfull, but since I have a forward seatpost it's much better, commuted several time on it (18-20miles) and it was absolutely fine... That seat post is ugly though... I'm waiting for an inline one from ebay which hopefully I should receive in time for the ride...
Will be good to meet you
Absolutely!

Saddly I can't change the chainring, it's an old / obsolete stronglight standard (122BCD from memory), won't be able to source something before the WE...
The freewheel block is a 14 to 18 one. And a pretty shit one, althouth period / TT correct I suppose. Blocks are not that common anymore if you want something that does not look what is found on a budget MTB (often going to 25 / 26) and looks all wrong... I should really invest in a nice Regina one, but that will wait...

Hey man, you're always welcome on my rides!
I think you'll be able to manage on that gear, far from ideal though. Could always chuck a fixed wheel on it ;)- TM
