  • Ah, yeah, I didn't realise it was internal routing.

Might be doable if you can leave the hose too long and plug it sufficiently to feed, then hold vertically-ish so open end is at top, tap along length of hose from bottom to top to encourage any air bubbles back to the open end, trim to length hopefully cutting off any air bubbles that have been introduced. Would get you up and running & if it feels like a horrible spongy mess, you can at least ride to the lbs - or just hand it all to them in the first place :D

  • I have zero experience fucking about with hydraulics.

    Brixton Cycles will save me.

  • Project update:

Ignore the bar / saddle angle as they haven't been touched yet.

Close-up (albeit a shit one) of the Hylex caliper:

  • I'm thinking I might need the 17 degree stem.... anyone got a 3T one I can try?

  • I've got a 120- any use to you?

  • This is a 110 but in reality, I think a 100 is better for me...

Having said that, I guess it would be useful to try it our for size re: the angle before buying one anyway. I'll drop you a PM over the weekend if I need it. If that's okay...

  • Sure. It'll just go into the parts box otherwise.

  • Looking good. Awaits finished, drive side pic...

  • Yeah, looking forward to this. The levers themselves look incredibly long, is that right?

Is the hydraulic mechanism in the lever a la SRAM Red or in the calliper itself a la TRP Hy/Rd?

  • Yea, master cylinder is in the lever. It's not as long as it looks in the photo... Should look better with tape on.

  • Took it to Cadence cycles yesterday morning... Taken them until now to look at it and they've damaged the olive, removing the hose from the caliper.

Now they're going to wait until Wednesday for another mechanic to take a look. Won't be riding it for a while.

  • why not brixton/kinoko/fitzrovia? I think those shops have more hydraulic experience than pure roadie shops. Kinoko mainly because marc, jamie and bobby are into mad MTB-ing. Last week fitzrovia built my MTB. I had bought a broken/not working rear hydro brake caliper which they fixed and built the bike in half day, would defo recommend.

  • Sorry to hear that Soul- the head mechanic was recommended to me by Jimbilly, and he's always done well with my stuff so I had assumed that they were equally good with off-road biased stuff as they were with road.

  • Will be interested to hear your views on the frame. Im planning on building a CX bike so these could be a possibility!

Don't worry about it. It's the factory tightening of the compression nut that borked it in the first place.

Fingers crossed the head mechanic can so something with it on Friday. I don't fancy going for a warranty claim for these as there aren't any left in the country.

The frame is fantastic quality, the workmanship is the same as any high level frame.... it has internal cable routing (w/ allen mounts for easier access) and came with all the necessary bits and pieces.

I have't ridden it yet so will provide a full update when it has brakes.

  • This is good stuff. I can really recommend the BEER Components Ecc. BB if you'd like to ditch the tensioner. Albeit rather expensive.

  • Cheers.

I'm really tempted by the ecc. BB but does it work with GXP style cranks?

  • Yep, you just need to buy a shim from them too.

I run Red cranks with it.

  • Ah.... It's for BB30 frames of which I this is not.

  • Bummer. BB30 is brilliant for SS, however there do exist eccentric BB's for BSA and 24mm spindle cranksets if you really want it.

  • Looking sexy, I'm tempted to sell my ribble 7005 winter bike and invest in something similar.

  • Really disappointed w/ Cadence Cycles.

If they'd just be honest as to when they're going to do something, it would save me having to ring up twice a day to find out what's going on.

I handed it in on Saturday and have so far had to call them 6 times to get an update. Each of those updates have been; we'll look at it today and give you a call straight back.

  • It's a shit shop in a useful location.

  • It's a shit shop in a useful location.

    This definitely sums it up.

I only dropped it off there because they were the closest shop open when I had to time to drop it off.

I won't make that mistake again.
