  • This weeks list of changes;

    • Replaced all outbound spokes on right side, 5 had broken and the others were not far off.
    • Replaced the bolts in front hub as they were bent.
    • New sleeve for back right Butcher peg.
    • Swapped out the front left Pleg for another in slightly better condition
    • Returned to Giant saddle.
    • Replaced Mk2 Gland with another due to snapping 5 of the bits the cable ties/shoelace go around.

  • Boss shit.

  • Don't do it!

Though if this doesn't convince you I might have to take the Scerbos.

  • Ive tried.
And ive enjoyed it. But like a year in and ive got nothing. Theyre yours once I sell some more bits.

  • a 21.6 is bloody huge. I'm a fair bit taller than you and love a 20.5

  • woops.
    20.6

  • haha, i'm with BMXed though you should keep it, they're hardly big, mine lives in a cupboard with the hoover

  • yeah i guess...

  • My bmx sat unused for 2.5 years, there was no way I could bring myself to get rid of it. I knew that one day I'd want to have a go again even though my mind was saying it was all over.

Have you got people you ride with? Having a good little group of people to go out for a ride with can make a huge difference, but at the same time going for a solo blast through the streets hitting curb cuts and exploring hits the spot.

Maybe you just need to mix it up. Everyone focuses too much on tricks these days, stick to the basics and get comfortable then everything else will start to fall into place. Take a lesson from Ratkid.

  • Wise words.

Drag yourself to Stockwell and Hit the bowl there, just carving that will make you realise it's a bad idea to sell your bike. There's so many different ways to ride a bike which don't involve technical street tricks.

Fuck I miss riding my bmx.

  • well maybe i will.
    im so so shit though.

cranks and that will be going on a different bike but i can rebuild it at some point.

  • It's not about the tricks!

The internet shows us a constant stream of footage from people who are "better" than us, and it's made people so trick hungry. It doesn't come easy for everyone, I sucked when I started and spent years working on bunnyhops, 180s and feebles. I stuck with it because it was fun, took me to interesting places and allowed me to make some brilliant friends.

It sounds like you just need to mix it up a bit. Personally I'd go out with nothing and just cruise around Central at night doing little gaps, manuals and wallrides whilst not really stopping to session any real spots. But then there are the numerous different skateparks with bowls of all shapes and sizes, Stockwell, Victoria park, Kennington, Cantelowes, The Spot, ect. Carving round Stockwell is a wonderful feeling, it's big enough to be intimidating and give you a bit of a buzz without the all out fear of hitting the deep end at Victoria Park.

Also you could take your pegs off, then there isn't any pressure to learn a new grind.

Maybe we should sort out a LFGSS bmx ride some time soon.

  • Plus a BMX is the absolute perfect pub bike

  • Wise words Ed.
I'd be up for a ride but it's going to be June until my collarbone is fixed.

  • Yeah maybe your right Ed.
Does anyone have any spare cranks I could buy to keep it running?

  • Good lad, just give it another chance. I've seen too many people get rid of bmxs and then regret it and not be able to put together another one.

Unfortunately I can't help with the cranks. It might be worth mentioning what drive side you run and bearing size you have.

  • 19mm. But anything will work for now.
I'm building up like a fun curbcrusher commuter thing with my splined profile cranks so just need some cranks to go on the bmx to keep it useable.

  • Indra has almost an entire BMX i lent him so hassle him if he's using it

  • Don't sell it. I regret selling mine everyday.

  • Ditto, I didn't ride it enough and didn't have room for it but still kicking myself.

  • Thank you all for persuading me to keep my ugly little baby.
I've fallen in love with it again this weekend.
    Pegs are off.
PSI is down. I've just been hopping up curbs and little stair sets. It's been a real joy.

Really want to try a park but am nervous about going when I'm so shit.
Maybe will try make it early on a week day so its not busy and no one will see me.

But yeah really enjoying it. Took a nasty spill today which was good though. Needed reminding that I can take a fall and not be totally broken.

  • Ah mate when I've built mine up teach me some things.

I'm trying to build it for free though so may take a while.
