Isn't that the bike you had made, custom, to completely mimic an old frame you had that was really comfortable?

Yes sparky.
10 points to you - I just love it....
Give thanks,

Give thanks,
TimIt's sort of what I did with the silver one above. I'd been to see Scherrit and he'd got me pretty comfy on an old tourer, so I asked Donny to measure where the seat, bars and pedals were, then build a road bike around that. Seemed to work nicely.

Evening all, My ride buddy has just announced that he won't be riding with me. Pah.
I live in Braintree(not too far off the route near Dunmow) and will be riding in to London then doing the ride to Dunwich then back to Braintree.
Anyone else on here making their way in from Essexland and would like an extra team member? I have done the ride alone before and would really appreciate a bit of company on those lonely lanes. If I go, I'll be going from Stortford.... A quick blast down the flitch, then down the river?
Oh but some people set off as late as 9.30pm. It's the ultimate afterworker. Pub pit-stops, beach at the end, free Chainbreaker hugs...
I'm feeling it!
But I also might just go to finchingfield, and meet up..... Not sure -

Has a group of there and backers formed for this year? Me and a mate are risking it. Me fixed, him geared.

That looks familiar....
I've spent the last year of my life cleaning those little holes after every ride. Ready to give up now.
As soon as I saw the photo, I started thinking about cleaning ...

Anyone else riding to Ipswich for the train home? If so, I have a really nice GPS track that takes you through some lovely lanes and byways.

It seems that bus tickets are already sold out. Not really sure what more options do I have. Is Ipswich really the nearest town with a train station?? Help!

Two things: coach tickets and feeder rides...
(1) Coach tickets
Last year we brought over 800 back from Dunwich on coaches. When I say "we", that's Bermondsey Bill in charge of logistics, and a number of Southwark Cyclists people issuing tickets in London Fields, and Dog & Bell Crew, myself included, counting heads and bikes on the day. This year we've upped the number to 1,000, and have a stash of tickets as a contingency. Ticket sales via the website have now closed, but there is a waiting list for the contingency reserve, so you might want to register an interest...
I'm afraid that I cannot answer specific questions about ticket sales, as I'm blissfully ignorant about that (and much else besides).
(2) Feeder rides
A number of borough cycling groups and others are organising feeder rides to London FIelds. I'm leading a ride from Cutty Sark Gardens in Greenwich, up along the Regent's Canal. Last year I went via Southwark Needle, and there collected the Southwark crowd. This year I want to avoid the nastiness of rush-hour central London, hence the canal-side pootle. I recommend that southeast London riders coming from points west of Greenwich make their way along the Thames Path (NCR4) to Cutty Sark Gardens. We may yet see an organised sub-feeder from Southwark Needle to Greenwich.
See here for details of the Greenwich Feeder...

I see that fellow Dog & Bell Crew member saoirse is organising a feeder from Lewisham, but I don't have a web link for this. All I know is that Jane's ride starts at Ladywell Fields, and crosses Tower Bridge.

Wise words chainbreaker ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You need to have a look through this thread. There are some other options like a few places going on mini-buses etc. You won't be the only one without a definite way of getting home, but I am desperately trying to resist saying ' et tu xesar' . Also look at the maps to see where else might be a go-er for the train - Diss, Darsham even back to Sudbury. There is also a ride to Norwich which is another way of getting home...Don't let the fact that you will be at least 120 miles from babylon-don without a way of getting home put you off. You could always have a holiday out there then ride back - it's a lovely part of the world.
Give thanks and good luck with the logistics,
Tim -

Thanks for that guys, didn't see that previous post about coach tickets. Let's see what I can find. Cheers

P.S. BIG respects to you and Skully for helping out at the feed station. It is your help that means punters like myself get to the coast - give thanks....
Thanks, Tim.
Incidentally, and not aimed at Tim, we could still do with a volunteer or two. Expenses paid. PM me if you're interested in helping.

Hello DunRunners. For those wishing to take a train back from Dunwich, please find attached Greater Anglia's modified timetable.
The 0946 from Darsham is the extra train. Space will be limited on the others.
If you have any queries please let James Steward, Area Customer Services Manager for Ipswich & North, know.
Thanks.

I asked the train operator if people should book for this extra 0946 train and am told: "I don't think we are taking reservations for this service, it would only let 4 bikes be booked anyway!Turn up on the day and we'll do our best. I think the message is that trains in normal service will be limited but we'll do our best, the special one will have much more room."
So about 40 spaces for bikes.

Train was ace last year. Doing it again this year.
The online booking thingy doesn't let you reserve a bike space but I'm sure it'll be fine. Usual deal with trains, absolute worst case you whip the wheels off and call it luggage. I seriously doubt that will happen but either way you'll get back to London.

I'll be taking the train this year too. Thanks for the link Alex.

If I go, I'll be going from Stortford.... A quick blast down the flitch, then down the river?
I know the Flitch well, not sure which river you mean? The Stort? Maybe a bit off-road for my bike. I usually take the Rodings, Fyfield, Epping route into London so could meet up somewhere around Epping.
I'm feeling it!
But I also might just go to finchingfield, and meet up..... Not sureHaving done that myself twice now, joining the route at Wethersfield, I am going to the start this year. Could meet up in Finchingfunch. You on fixed or gears?

Hi, I'll be leading a Lea Valley CC ride through the early part of the DD; that is up to Moreton.
If you want to get an idea of the route from the Waterworks to Moreton then meet me @ Walthamstow Town Hall at 9.00 am.
I ll also post a pot hole report for that part of the route..

@AlexB - I am planning on riding back to Ipswich too.PM me - what time are you aiming to leave for Ipswich? Have you already got train tickets etc?
I'll be taking the 2:43 from Ipswich, so leaving the beach at midday or thereabouts. If you want to take the train, then you need a bike reservation, although to be honest last year they were really well organised for us and less fussy about the bike reservations.
Happy to rid with you if you want company.

I'm just about to book my train ticket from Cambridge to Liverpool Street for what looks like a nice easy roll up Cambridge Heath Road to the start. #neverriddenroundeastlondon
I've been let down by the two blokes who said they'd do it with me, so will be [desperately] looking for some friends. Please say hai to the lonely man on the black Vitus with rear 4spok spinergy.
ETA : Jesus obviously wants me to do this ride as my chosen train ticket was only £8. I briefly considered paying £12 for first class and eating the £4 back in free crisps, but decided I'd look odd in the posh seats.
^^That is gorgeous. Sadly cant make it this year, I'm riding 100 miles in the other direction to a wedding on the Isle of wight.
