JAH tim's topical up all night tips
Greetings and love people,
Well the old how do you stay up all night / prepare to stay up all night for this ride question is currently trending as they say.
For me I will
Avoid alcohol
Make sure bike and kit ready night before, so I can sleep easy
Not rush to get up on the Saturday
Be a good boy all week in run up, so on Saturday I am rested rather than knackered
East well beforehand
Keep taking on liquids and food regularly to avoid the bonk
Etc
Etc - it's just about looking after yourself...Biggest thing for me is not to get too excited at the start of the ride. Just take it easy cos we have all night
This summers' weather
vvvvvvvvv
is finally beginning to look up.
Rumour has it it is going to be
Peace and love and two weeks to go,
Tim -

^that's one approach
I getting drunk most nights in the run up
Getting up early on Saturday for a busy day
Having a pint at most pubs en route
Eat a KFC at the start
Ride like a jack russell chasing a bin lorry overtaking as many people as possible between pub stopsIf you fall we will rob you of any food in your pockets and leave you to die where you fall. Remember, the needs of the many outweight the needs of the few.
Live long and prosper,
Ramaye ;) -

I'm out like a trout too. Was relying on me only having to come from Oxford, coming from Bournemouth is a whole nother kettle of fish. Next year though, for sure.

The Eagle kit is probably the worst designed club kit in East London.
Easy tiger - best kit to spot your club mates in the bunch & been like that since 1923. So what club do you ride for?

probably the second worst and jealous...
Or Dunwich

I will be the short squat loud one with a forum cap. Probably with shark pits too! No need to be shy, we are as we are.
It's at a pub with crowds of ppl! You'll get your chance:-)

Can anyone tell me when we can expect the coach to get back on Sunday?
Late right?
Couldn't find anything on the Southwark FAQs, but could just be me not being literate. -
• #463
They normally do a coach an hour throughout the morning. Last year many forumers spent the morning in the pub and got the last coach off the beach at about 1ish.

Cheers. About a 2.5 - 3hr drive back?
Planning my Sunday. -

Hello I'll hopefully be doing this for the first time this year, just need to and if there are any descents to watch out for fixed brakeless?
-
• #467
Mate, any chance you could just fit a brake for 1 day? Think of it as extraordinary measures, for the safety of everyone on the ride. 100+ miles in the dark on no sleep, surrounded by randoms.. give it some thought eh :)
-
• #468
You'd be better off with a brake, Indra. Most of the hills are towards the end, and you don't want to be trying to skid with knackered legs, in the dark.
As Yemble said, it'd probably be safer for everyone.
-
• #469
I don't actually own one, and neither of my current bikes will take one.
-
• #470
Then you probably don't have the right sort of bike for this ride...
-
• #471
No doubt it's been done before, just be aware of who you're riding with and be safe always. Do expect a group of hybrids to hit their v-brakes without warning right in front of you. I don't remember any long steep descending but probably a few short drops and definitely a lot of rolling ups and downs toward the end.

There are no really steep descents on the Dunwich Dynamo. The main fast descent is the one towards Sudbury, which will feel uncomfortable brakeless, especially if you have to skid-stop for the traffic signal at the bottom (yeah, right). There's a brief moderately steep descent towards Sible Hedingham (shortly before the feed) which in the dark can surprise you, and a couple of other descents en route, but as I say, none that are really steep.
While the rolling hills towards the end can feel pretty leg-sapping after 100 miles, there is only one sketchy bit here:
https://maps.google.com/?ll=52.285258,1.482403&spn=0.003216,0.006899&t=m&z=17
It doesn't look like a problem on StreetView, but it can often be covered in all sorts of crap. I know plenty of people who've done it brakeless without issues, but if in doubt walk the short bit to the bottom.
Anyway, doing the DD brakeless is obviously not a good idea, but who ever rode brakeless because it was a good idea? You'll enjoy the ride more with brakes. Obviously. :)

Did you just win that frame on eBay?
No, had it since last year. It's the same as the one that just went on eBay though, but made for a different rider from the squad.
I'm tempted to go for the return leg. For sells - croggie back to town, £39.95
