Greetings folks,
Re Ludd's poetic 'last time I did the ride, it was raining hard as i headed up to Hackney. Then the sun came out, and there was a rainbow ahead of us as we rode up the Lea Bridge Road.'
This is all the proof you need why people love East Babylon-don so much, whilst the rest of us can only dream of living there.
Hopefully the style police will still let me over the bridge on the night.
Peace and Love and 26 days to go,
Tim -

I've told the wife we're going to have a lovely family day out at the seaside on Sunday 21st.
I haven't yet told her the travel plans, but I expect she'll be pleased to learn that I'm getting a train down to London the night before and cycling up and that she's driving the kids to Dunwich on her own and bringing us all back home together. Probably with me asleep all the way back.
...and the problem is...?
Same plan for me

I'm in. 1st DD and 1st century. The missus has finally bought a bike using DD as motivation, so need to make sure she doesn't show me up.
@TricityBendix See you at the start, and fully expect to see you coming in the other direction before I've finished.

Greetings to each and every one,
Well it's the usual thing where real life gets in the way of the need to put in some serious training for this ride.....
I have done alright this year with the London Classic, a few 40 mile rides and a 70 miler about a month ago, but nothing bigger and this has been playing on my mind as the big day, or is that night approaches....
I had some spare time yesterday morning, so I popped down to the lovely Richmond Park and got a nice ride in of 51 miles. I don't need to extol the virtues of the place, but what I like about it is that it is very cycling friendly and I am never more than 7 miles from home if something happens. Oh and the fact it is full of cyclists on £££ machines, taking it and their 'apparel' ( in the pre Rapha-lite days this was known as 'clothing'...) very seriously just adds to the appeal.
I've also been thinking about what I need to do to my bike, so have ordered some new tires, a chain and sprocket, so aim to get all this fitted with about a week to go, so once the day comes, I just need to get on the bike and go. Also entre nous, I'm now rocking a custom 853 stem which Ryan @ Oak has just built for me (his first one ever). This has made my bike feel stiff as anything upfront (sorry if this is double entendre territory...) which I am loving.
I hope all is going well for you all and see you on the ride.
Allez Team LFGSS
Peace and Love,
Tim -

Hooray! I'm back in!
Might need to get some big rides in now...
Looking at mudguards (weather can't be as good as last year, surely) - has anyone fit 18/23 raceblades on 25c tyres? Scoble?

Well, I was going to do this with the GirlF however training intentions haven't quite worked out and taking her on DD would amount to cruel and unusual punishment. so I am technically riding solo.
She has it in mind to meet me in Dunwich once I have ridden there.
Are there any public transport options or is the only way to drive up?
-
• #391
Greetings fidbod,
The problem you have is that most people get to Dunwich from about 5 am to 9 am. If you want your girlfriend to meet you via public transport, then she is going to have trouble getting there at that time without having spent the night out there.
Rail service is London Liverpool Street to Ipswich and then I think a change to get the train to Darsham which is about 5 miles from Dunwich.
If she is to drive then it's straight up the A12 which you can pick up from just after Victoria Park in Hackney - take it all the way and turn right once you see the Dunwich signs. It's probably easier if she cycles....
Peace and love,
Tim -

Getting increasingly excited as the day draws nearer to my first DD :)
The only bike I've got at the moment is a mielec mash copy and I've never done further than 18 miles on it (which I do twice a weekday). Nor do I have time to put in the miles between now and the 20th.
Am I going to die? If not can I count on y'all to slap me on the back and tell me to stop being a baby? -
• #393
no
youll be fine
-
• #394
yeah, stop being a baby
-
• #395
So youre doing 36 miles a day and youre worried? Dont be :-)
-
• #396
Yeah but it's 3x the distance.
Cool. Time to tough up. No baby whining about being a baby. -
• #397
Chung you'll be fine mate. You might want to bring the GI down a bit, but its not exactly hilly.
-
• #398
Does anyone need a minibus lift home from Dunwich? £40
There are a number of spaces available.
PM me if you're interested.
